Emi sighed and looked to her side. The girl she had picked up was still sleeping, and the wyrdlings encircled her while they napped. She was sitting with her legs against her chest. The snakes were hours gone, and night was decending from the horizon.

The smell of the snakes still hung in the air. It was slightly nauseating, and Emi felt sick to her stomach from it. She couldn't understand how it lingered so long, even after they'd cleaned up all the carcasses and disposed of them. Maybe they'd been sent for some reason, maybe they'd been dying. Maybe they'd been outcast trying to win favor back with their people. She didn't know. Didn't really care.

She sneezed, and rubbed her nose with her finger. It felt irritated like she'd been out in a field of pollenating flowers. But nasty flowers. She felt like she wanted to wretch, but forced herself from doing so. It had to be that smell. It was odd how she hadn't even noticed it until a few minutes before. There was no breeze, maybe what had been left from the dead snakes was now stagnating. It didn't matter. It was making her sick.

"Cyrus, I don't feel so well. It smells like snakes. Let's go home?"
