Subject: CHEMO UPDATE

I went for the second treatment of this round of chemo today. The actual treatment went very smoothly as it always does. I have to say when I arrived I was quite disappointed that "The Price is Right" was not on television. In fact the TV wasn't on at all. We ALWAYS watch THE PRICE IS RIGHT during our treatments.

I asked the patients if they minded if I turned it on and actually a few patients were excited at the idea. Good Heavens, it just isn't chemo without ole' Bob Barker!!

I turned it on and we were all happy. Since I had the remote, the other patients even wanted me to turn up the sound. HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!!

They tested my blood and found that my counts have dropped so that meant I had to get that very painful shot.

I requested to have it given to me in my stomach instead of the back of my arm. Needless to say I was quite nervous about it. I didn't want the shot to begin with but I couldn't help but think "oh my God, in my tummy??". It was my decision but it still made me very nervous.

The nurse took me into the bathroom for privacy from the other patients. She grabbed a roll of fat (and that was pretty easy for her to do) and proceeded to apply an alcohol rub to the VERY tense area. She asked me if I was ready..... NO! But I said YES.

Right as she went to stick me with the needle I went to raise my hand. Of all things, I hit her arm.... the arm that was attached to the hand that held the needle. Well, the needle stung quite a bit and I'm sure I made it worse by hitting her arm.

I stood there waiting for the pain to come. It didn't!! I was astounded!! ABSOLUTELY no pain from the injection!! The needle stung a bit but that was tolerable. BUT the medicine in the injection was painless!! ABSOLUTE SHOCK!! I walked out of that place a happy camper and with a huge grin on my face!!

This is the one time in my life I think I'm happy to have rolls of fat in the tummy area!! And once again, I'm doing the dancing chicken!!!

I wish I didn't have to go through it either, but look on the bright side... if I didn't have cancer, I wouldn't be going through chemo, then I wouldn't have the side effects that KEEP ME HOME with a paycheck. I get to be home everyday with my babies doing whatever I want to do... whenever I want to do it!! I get to sleep in every day that I choose to and that's wonderful. Plus I had the time to plant a bunch of bulbs in the fall since I was home. And now I get to be home to enjoy all the beautiful flowers that came up. I am so proud of myself, I actually planted bulbs AND THEY GREW!! Now I've been weeding the flower garden outback, clearing out the brush of all the vines, fertilizing and putting "good" soil down and putting out grass seed out front under the tree. Now I can be home to make sure it get's watered so IT will grow too!! Then I can take a nap afterwards!! LOL!

I am so thrilled that the tummy is much more tolerable than the back of the arm. The needle itself stings like a big bee sting but the medicine doesn't hurt going in. The sting in the back of the arm is a piece of cake compared to the pain once the medicine goes into the arm. You'd think they'd put some numbing medication in the needle to help make it less painful.

I have every intention of beating this damn thing!! I gotta be here to learn how to drive RATTRAX without slamming on the breaks and get to drive RATTRAP for the first time and hopefully without any problems!!

Well I had to get the nurses attention somehow! LOL! That's a shame you couldn't go to Kentucky with the rest of the family, I know you would have really liked it. If I remember correctly when you were a kid you went to Kentucky once and LOVED it!! Does my memory serve me correctly or was that just a figment of my imagination?

I look forward to getting those pictures!!

Hey, How are you? Yes you were right about Ky I was there when I was younger and loved it. Went there a year ago in August and Loved it even more. I talk to Mom everyday and they have had a great time, not a lot of rain. They will be back on Saturday, making a stop at Charlestown Slots on Friday and staying over. If work allows it, I plan to meet them there, but will head back that nite as I have to work a double on Sat. Look for the pics some time next week. Take Care.

I'm so glad to hear that your Mom is having a great time! I'm sure she needed some fun in her life these days. Did they fly out or drive?

I can't wait for the pictures!!

They drove. First stop was Kentucky, then Georgia to visit friends and then to Virginia to visit relatives, last stop today at Charlestown West Virginia. Hope they win some money. They have really been lucky, nice weather all the way. They will be back tomorrow. Big Community yard sale in Howard Park next Saturday, try to stop up at Moms if you can. I hope the weather holds out. I took off work next week for 4 days so sometime then I will get those pics to Donna. Curious to see if you have copies. Hope your infection clears up soon. Hang in there.

How about this: All the chemo patients get together and guess the cost of their drugs. Whoever comes closest, without going over, wins an injection in the belly from Bob Barker.....
