Understand McGrath. True. Liberalism, if accomodate to the secular world too much, will lose its spiritual leadership on the secular. His message is very valuable---while listening to the secular world, we Liberals should not forget to PREACH and TEACH the secular world! Liberalism is good at modifying Chrisitan faith to match new secular knowledge but weak in affirming the value of Chirsitan faith to the secular world.

Certainly. Many Liberals are ex-fundies. I am an ex-fundie. Ex-fundies are firmer Liberals. In the past, I used to think, like you, that majority of Liberals are converts from Conservatism. By attending a liberal church, however, I begin to realize that some young attendants are by heritage. Liberals by heritage (attending a liberal church with parents) may like to take a look at a different kind of church and turn to a Conservative church.
