Hey, I'm Caitlin, and I play many dragons on this site.
I know that this probably isn't the best time with the war going on and all, but I saw your character, Tarquin's, name and had to just tell you...
You really know your ancient Roman history don't you? Tarquin was a tyrant in ancient Rome, he was driven from power by around 509BC though. His full title was Tarquin the Proud. Is that your character's full title? Just curious.
I just needed to say that - I'm very interested in world cultures, especially the ancient Greeks and Romans. I thought it was very cool that you named a character after an ancient Roman.

And I'm Kate. Yes, I do know some of the real Tarquin's history. I was actually reading a book about Rome around the time that I named the dragon Tarquin. The book was becoming boring, and I thought that Tarquin had been the most interesting man described. Unfortunately, Tarquin does not follow in the steps of his namesake. Tarquin went on a different "road" when he wasn't immediately killed as intended. Maybe someday he'll earn the title Tarquin the Proud, but as of yet I think he's going to stay just Tarquin.

*Bows* Thank you for noticing - I was wondering when someone would.

Does anyone know if Lizzy and Quin got Isis and Osiris from Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles???

I'm a fanatic when it comes to Anne Rice. I just eat up her books...mmmm. And I have both the movies on DVD, though they hardly do their paperback comrades justice.

But, Isis actually got her name when I was doing some personal research on Greek mythology...very interesting stuff. Like how in Roman times her "cults" actually rivaled that of the Christians. Or how she penetrated several lands with her "motherly" self. Heh, even some sources suggested that the family of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus was actually derived from the family of Isis, Osiris, and Horus.

Actually, I'm rather relieved that Kate decided on the name Tarquin instead of Horus...just too predictable.

Oh, well...

I love where some peeps get their names here on cm. You can be so creative with names. Ancient names are the coolest though.

You mean... Isis and Osiris aren't named after the Egyption gods? Have I gone totally insane?! I can't remember either Isis or Osiris being in the Vampire Chronicles!- or wait, yes I can! *Grins* I'm having a rough day.

Must throw my two cents in.....im studying this in Humanities HOnors, lol. There was a CRAZY emperor back then named Caligula...roughly translated, it means "Emperor Sandals." He was mentally insane, built his horse a marble castle, AND made his horse the Counsel, or head, of the army. Pretty twisted, eh?
