It hadn't worked. He should have figured that the attempt would be in vain, for all it meant was that he was now very much injured with nowhere left to run. And that was mainly because he couldn't run - perhaps he would be able to hobble along with he put his mind to it but he was far too tired to try anything of the sort. Funny how being hurt also meant that fatigue was wearing him down. Great. He caught sight of the female's intention and not bothering to leave anything up for rational thought, he kicked out with his hind legs towards the out-stretched limbs, concentrating hard on making this attempt count.
