Subject: UHF CB System?

Now that we are allowed an extra 8 (digital) PMR446 channels, located after the normal 8 analogue ones. What is stopping us from just using them (all 16 of them) as a UHF CB system?

Analogue Ch 01 446.00625
Analogue Ch 02 446.01875
Analogue Ch 03 446.03125
Analogue Ch 04 446.04375
Analogue Ch 05 446.05625
Analogue Ch 06 446.06875
Analogue Ch 07 446.08125
Analogue Ch 08 446.09375

Digital Ch 01 446.10625
Digital Ch 02 446.11875
Digital Ch 03 446.13125
Digital Ch 04 446.14375
Digital Ch 05 446.15625
Digital Ch 06 446.16875
Digital Ch 07 446.18125
Digital Ch 08 446.19375

As I understand it, we are allowed to use all 16 frequencies as digital channels, or we can mix and match and are allowed to use the 8 digital ones and the 8 analogue ones (what we have been using for a number of years now as PMR446) in harmony. Presumably to allow a slow change over period?

If Ofcom doesn't seem to mind the digital transmissions being made on the old analogue frequencies then why should we mind making analogue transmissions on the (new) digital frequencies.

What would be the difference?

If digital transmissions don't interfere with analogue transmissions made on the original 8 channels, how can it be any different if you make analogue transmissions on the (new) digital frequencies?

That gives us a reasonable number (16) of easily recognised 'channels' to use. It also allows for some people to continue operating at 0.5W with 'standard' PMR446 radios, while others use the higher power radios with external antennas.

Add in the fact that very cheap Chinese PMR radios can be purchased which have 6.25kHz tuning steps with 2.5kHz deviation, that run 2.5W or even 5W and you have a ready made UHF CB system...

Thoughts please?
