GREENS INTRODUCE SAME-SEX BILL

The Greens have introduced a Bill into federal Parliament's Lower House calling for people in same-sex relationships to have access to the same rights as heterosexuals.

Greens Member for Cunningham Michael Organ says the bill seeks to abolish sexuality-based discrimination relating to marriage as well as adoption, superannuation, employment entitlements and age of consent.

Mr Organ says the Coalition will most likely oppose the bill, while the position of the Labor Party is unclear.

"We know the Liberal Party's stand, they are opposed to same-sex marriage. Labor is equivocating and waffling, it's basically all over the shop in regards to same-sex marriage," he said.

"Prior to becoming leader of the Opposition Mark Latham was supportive of same-sex marriage - since becoming leader of the Opposition, he's changed his tune on that."
