Subject: Coaching from the sidelines

I would like to find out the ruling of coaches coaching from the sideline as was performed during the Souths v Raiders match tonight. I am guessing we may hear more about it in the media over the next couple of days. I was sure that 'coaching from the sidelines' was not permitted. Can anyone answer this query for me?
