Subject: Archer Grand Final Referee

The NRL has announced that Tony Archer will referee this Sunday's grand final at Telstra Stadium between Melbourne Storm and Manly Sea Eagles.

Archer is the 22nd referee to officiate in the season decider and was appointed after controlling the preliminary final between the Storm and Parramatta Eels on Sunday.

It is the first major refereeing appointment for Archer and he is excited by the achievement.

"It's an incredible honour and it's something every referee strives to achieve," said Archer.

The police prosecutor said that he wouldn't be reading the newspapers this week and NRL referee boss Robert Finch said he wanted Archer to go into the match with no preconceived ideas.

The grapple, crusher and ripper tackles will be policed. "I won't hesitate to penalise anything illegal," said Archer.

Referees coach Robert Finch also announced today that Steve Chiddy and Russell Turner would be sideline officials with Bill Harrigan an Phil Cooley in the video referees box.
