  Were my eyes working?? Did I see Jarad Maxwell refereeing in Blue boots?? There are now 3 colours of boots - white, black and blue - being used.
  
  Is it really that hard to get standard black boots for all NRL members?? Lets get the standard set once again!!

  Just wondering if anyone else has seen a young referee called Adam Gee go around. I seen him ref a jim beam cup semi this weekend, and thought he had a good game. I just wanted to know what association he is from, and what everyone else thinks of him. I think he has the potential to make NRL.

  for weeks now in the NRL that not many Referee's would stand up to the Melbourne storms, when the referee says move the strom players just keep on laying on the opposition, when i seen Bernard Sutton Refereeing the Storms it was a good match because he didn't let any players stand over him, I rate Bernard very highly

  What is everyones thoughts on the 2 referee system they have been trialling in the Toyota Cup recently. I was at the Roosters Vs Souths match last friday, and Alan Shortall and Gavin Badger were refereeing the under 20s match. I think it has its pros and cons. Yes, they were a bit confused, but it is new. The main thing is that with 2 referees they will not be as tired and can therefore enhances decision making.

  How would you feel if you're a touch judge and a player spits at you. You report this assault (and it IS an assault) to the referee who puts the matter on report.
  
  I'm sorry Ben Cummins but that's disgraceful refereeing and you've let down your mate, big time
  
  Wade McKinnon should have been immediately sent off no questions asked.
  
  Putting the matter on report was weak refereeing and also comes across as having a lack of faith or belief in your touch judges opinion.

  why would you give Maxwell, who has only done a handful of NRL games, the Roosters/Broncos match. Friday night games are what i consider the "top" 2 games of the round in most cases. I think Robert Finch threw Maxwell into the wolves, and it was quite clear that he couldn't handle the pressure. my question is simple- Why would you give Jarred Maxwell a friday night match infront of 20,000 fans at the SFS and the TOP REFEREE(Mr Tony Archer) the Sharks v Storm match on a sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of somewhere near 10,000 people. What game is going to have more pressure????
  
  Out of the 8 referees in the NRL each week, Mr Finch should be able to give anyone of them any game and expect the same result. but unlike Archer, who has done in excess of 150 NRL games, Maxwell hasn't got that kind of experience, and thats what it came down to in the end- EXPERIENCE.
  
  It was quite obvious from the first 10mins that he wasn't going to be able to handle this match, and it went downhill from there.
  
  Shame on Robert Finch. i think the appointments should be thought over!
  
  Gavin Badger has been in the NRL longer then Maxwell, and i think Badge has a lot of potential, so why is it that he hasnt had ONE Friday Night Match, yet Maxwell gets one, and has a shocker.

  sharks vs brisbane the denan kemp try michael ennis in that play propelled the ball towards the opposition tryline. in the rulebook it states it as a knock.
  david simmons with a minute to go chased through a ball and kaine manihera jumped and ended up in the air.
  mid AIR TACKLE doesent it have to be a tackle to be a mid air tackle

  A mini - mod ruling : the laws state that the defence cannot move forward from the 5m until the ball is in the hands of the first receiver or the dummy half elects to run. So what is the ruling if the dummy half passes the ball to no one, the ball bounces 20m back and a player from the opposing side then runs through, picks up the ball and runs away and scores? ( This created a great deal of fun discussion at our meeting last week )

  I was observing the game tonight in new zealand and the sharks and thought that the performance of referee archer was ordinary.
  He gave the sharks so many opportunities and more than half the 50/50 calls went the sharks way. Also on one occasion a kick was put through and AS he kicked it sharks 5/8th brett seymour made contact with the kicker it was not late it was as he kicked it and archer gave a penalty.
  i no condition were bad but i also thought it was an ordinary performance from one of the best refs in the nrl.

  The Laws state:
  7. (a) A team in possession of the ball shall be allowed
  five successive play-the-balls. A handover shall
  occur AFTER the fifth play-the-ball in the following
  circumstances.
  i. The team is tackled a sixth time.
  ii. The team in possession commits an accidental
  breach for which a scrum would normally be set.
  iii. A player is held up in the opponent’s in-goal.
  iv. The ball is kicked directly into touch on the full.
  
  Now, if the ball is kicked into touch, not on the full, then we set a scrum.
  
  What about if:
  - a player throws the ball into touch?
  - a player runs or is knocked into touch (no tackle effected)
  
  Do you similarly set a scrum, or do you rule a handover?
  
  There is no glossary definition of "accidental breach"
  
  My vote is for a scrum.

  The Laws of the Game state:
  10. The play-the-ball shall operate as follows.
  (a) The tackled player shall be immediately released
  and shall not be touched until the ball is in play.
  
  Now, if this part of the Law was enforced, then there would be no opportunity for wrestling to occur.How many times do you see both the ball acrrier and the tackler arise still in contact, with the ball carrier only being released when both have stood up?
  
  So, time to stop fudging the Laws to pander to Coaches, and return to what refereeing is all about.

  After seeing Steve Clark on the Footy Show last night, I would have a suggestion that they make the referees jerseys from the world cup available for purchase to the public, lets say 10,000 of them. From the sales, lets say 20% of the profit is donated to the national breast cancer foundation. Seeing as though it is the world cup, I think this could potentially be a viable option.

  Just wondering,in recent weeks we have seen steve lyons and matt checchin back in the centre for NRL games. Given the fact they had been pushed onto the line for the last few years, are they going to get more of a go in the middle? I rate both of them as referees. Also, now we have seen these two make comebacks to the middle, any chance of seeing rod lawrence back out in the centre?

  Ball bounced in goal and defending player straddling dead ball line catches ball before it touches ground outside playing field.
  Tony Archer fail to recognise charge down by anasta in knights game sunday someone got a glossary or a laws book for him.
  This is what our new referees are watching and hopefully not interpreting incorrectly as those we strive to be like.

  I watched the Eels v Storm game yesterday afternoon, and noticed that the referee Ben Cummins and both touch judges were wearing orange shoelaces, which was also the colour of their shirts.
  
  Do the referees decide to do this with each colour they wear every week?
  i.e. white, green, yellow, etc.
  
  I haven't looked for this in other games but it was just something different which I had not seen (or noticed) before.

  An idea for the future - the introduction of a Challenge System for on field decisions in the NRL. All teams are allowed a maximum of two challenges per game. The challenges can be for absolutely anything from a strip to the grounding of a ball for a try. The captain or the coach via the captain simply requests to the referee the decision to be reviewed by instant replay. The video referee is given exactly one minute to make his decision from the time the first replay is shown to him. If he cannot make up his mind, the decision goes back to the referee on the field.
  After a team has had its two challenges, they must accept the decision of the on field officials for the rest of the game. All of this will have the effect of speeding up the game - there will only be a maximum of 4 stoppages per game, and it will put the responsibility of correct decision making back to the men on the field. After all, isn't that their function?

  What is the go with referees not sending players off? That tackle by Nate Myles last night was a send off in anyones book. And it's not just that either, several instances this year have warranted send-off but only received "on-report" rulings.
  
  Tony Archer sent a player off for hitting someone late & high earlier in the year, and Sean Hampstead for a high tackle. Yet they won't send someone off for attempting to break their neck (irrespective of intent or injury).
  
  I'm in no way intending to single anyone out - Every referee does it, and they're just doing what they're told to do by Channel 9 and Fox Sports so they keep as many games as even as possible.
  
  Every coach, player, official, and TV Executive needs to be given a copy of the laws of the game and be told thats how it's going to be refereed, none of these special laws just because players get paid trillions.
  
  The on-report system needs to be abolished, it's a blight on the game in my opinion. If it is misconduct and warrants a suspension it warrants a send-off.

  Congratulations to the NRL referees for getting into the spirit of Heritage weekend with their throwback uniforms.
  
  I'd be interested to know how comfortable they were to run in - the long sleeves on some cold weekends wouldn't be such a bad idea.
  
  The only thing that was missing was the glorious starched collars that messrs Pearce, Page et al made legendary in their day.

  Seeking a ruling enquiry Re: ball out of the full - now the definition of the ball being out on the full is the ball leaving the field of play without bouncing first - however the field of play is deemed to be the whole field besides the in goal and the sidelines - now what happens if the ball is kicked and lands in the in goal bounces back and goes into touch?

  Thought I would bring you up to date on Paul Mellor and Henry Perenara. Both are refereeinf in the Cronulla District and numerious games through out the week They have refereed more games in a short time than most referees in a 2 year period. Yes they are lucky to have the opportunity to do this. Thats life. Both have shown that years of playing at the top grade is of great advantage. In particular awareness around tha playing field and understanding of players attitudes. Their fitness level is far above 95% of district referees and this is of great advantage to them. It does not neccessarily make a referee but it makes it easier to referee when urgency and being on the spot to make a decision is required. They will be doing their Leve 2 in September at my course and hoefully will be in the Jnr Reps next year. They are both up to it.

  I noticed in the Titans V Tigers double sin bin yesterday, as the sideline officials reported the incident they both were firm in repeating "in my opinion".
  
  It seemed a bit prepared (for lack of a better word), any reason behind this rhetoric?

  When is a player considered to have marked the ball in-goal? Do both feet need to be in the in-goal for it to be considered a mark? What should happen if one foot is in and one foot is out?

  Paul is a bit of a bolter in my opinion, he seems to be a quite achiever though, and pretty consistent. I thought Russell Turner, Steve Carrall or Matt Checchin would of been picked before him. Thoughts?

  i am just wondering what the go was tonight in the second half when all the souths players left the field to listen to their coahc i am a sharks fan and was wondering weather that constitutes a forfeit cause the obly player from souths on the field was the goal kicker.Just wondering not really a big problem but the coaches get half time to talk so i just thought it was very strange and would see what you guys thought

  I would like to find out the ruling of coaches coaching from the sideline as was performed during the Souths v Raiders match tonight. I am guessing we may hear more about it in the media over the next couple of days. I was sure that 'coaching from the sidelines' was not permitted. Can anyone answer this query for me?
