The General Assembly,

On the topic of AIDS in Iran, many countries are not aware of the deep impact it has on its people and society. Aside from what the media portrays in Iran, many countries have neglected the fact that many people are in need to help because they are suffering from this disease.

We are all aware that AIDS is an ongoing problem all over the world but many places more than some because of lack of education, resources, and financial status. Many people in Iran are being infected with AIDS due to drug use, unprotected sex, and blood transfusions. The Islamic Republic of Iran is aware that many countries suffer this same disease but we are trying to open the eyes to the public that something needs to be done.

I. Expresses Deep Concern
(A) The Iranian government is concerned about the reported cases of AIDS and how the reports started coming out in 1987 and by the year of 2001 there has been 369 cases reported.

(B) That the numbers of deaths estimated only in the year 2001 ended up being 290. This is scaring many of the Iranian people since many of them do not understand the deaths of these people because they are not educated on this subject matter.

(C) The fact that people are experimenting with drugs which is leading many of them to getting HIV/AIDS and half of these people that get diagnosed don�t even know that what they have can kill them and that they get it from multiple sexual partners and the usage of drugs.

II. Is Aware That
(A) At a 2001 est. more than 20,000 people were living with HIV/AIDS.

(B) The government of Iran needs to educate more people on the topic of sex, and drugs.

(C) Is aware that people are spreading HIV/AIDS not only by having sex but more of the use of drugs for example many young adults between the ages of 15-35 are injecting drug use that may lead to infections my everyone sharing the same needle.

III Recommends

(A) That the Security Council:

1. That more people be educated on the topic of sex.

2. That we try to figure out a way to decrease the usage of drugs.

3. Building more treatment centers and hospitals so that there can more help for the people that are diagnosed.

4. Getting more well educated doctors.

5. Figure out what is making many of these young adults turn to drugs and try to educate them more on the topic and about it can kill you.
6. Introduce HAART (Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy) to the people since it has reduced the cases of AIDS that have been reported in many industrialized countries.
