Pakistan Carina Nygaard
UN
AIDS

UN,

A.I.D.S is a problem and the UN should care about this problem because they have a declaration for human rights. This means that they make sure that human rights are equal and people have rights and with A.I.D.S their rights are going away because article three in the declaration states that “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person” and when people are getting A.I.D.S they don’t have the right to live safely.

UNAIDS is a joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS. The UNAIDS was created to lead the responsibility on AIDS in the United Nations. They spend money to help with HIV/AIDS.

I. Expresses Deep Concern

(A) The amount of people living with HIV/AIDS in devolving countries is very high. As of 2001 it is estimated that in Pakistan the current number of adults and children living with HIV/AIDS is 78,000. Countries in Africa such as Ethiopia are having an even bigger problem with HIV/AIDS. The estimated amount of adults and children living with HIV/AIDS is 2,100,000. Ethiopia has more than 2 times the amount of people in Pakistan living with HIV/AIDS.

(B) The amount of people that have been educated about A.I.D.S is low. If people become more aware of how big the problem is they will become for cautious of the problems that A.I.D.S has.

(C) With AIDS comes poverty and starvation. Many women are not able to continue taking care of their family because they are sick with AIDS and the men of the house hold is too.

II. Is Aware That

(A) The UNAIDS is already spending $2 billion US money on HIV projects in 64 countries since 1986.

(B) The UNAIDS held a special session in June of 2001 to try and work on solutions for the epidemic and massive impact AIDS is having on the world. The outcome of that session was the UN declared a commitment that outlines priority areas where stronger action needs to be.

(C). In areas where there is more poverty there is more problems with A.I.D.S and most of the projects the UNAIDS has done has been in the countries that need it most.

III Recommends

(A) That the general assembly:

1. Educate people so they become more aware of the risks of getting AIDS, how to prevent yourself from getting it, what it is, how you get it, and the symptoms of having A.I.D.S.

2. Work on the poverty problem since with poverty comes problems with A.I.D.S.
