The General Assembly
Prevention and Treatment of the Epidemic of AIDS in Saudi Arabia
The General Assembly,
Realizing that the people of the United Nations are determined to promote social progress and better standards of life, yet the outbreak of HIV/AIDS has been overlooked,
Aware that the epidemic of HIV/AIDS is a severe crisis through out the nations of the world and is certainly a dangerous problem for Saudi Arabia,
I. Expresses Deep Concern
(A) This destructive disease is becoming a superior threat each year and 1,350 Saudis were infected just this year;
(B) The resulting deaths emphasize the need to provide education of prevention and medical treatment for existing infected citizens;
(C) There is no teaching of the prevention of AIDS in the public schools;
II. Is Aware That
(A) Recently the disease has been spreading rapidly and there have been some efforts to improve the situation;
(B)Last year alone an estimated 10,000 people died due to AIDS in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia;
III. Recommends
(A) That the Economic Security Councils:
1. Impose laws that state that there must be proper education on AIDS in all schools;
2. Set up a research center for treatments and a cure for AIDS in Saudi Arabia;
3. Set up a council that will determine the cost of treatment and research centers.
