The General Assembly
Adequate Sanitation Improvement in South Asia

The General Assembly,

Realizing that all countries have a right to live in clean and healthy conditions, yet the unsanitary and contaminated water, food, and living conditions of the people of South Asia have violated the universal rights of clean and healthy conditions for tens of millions of South Asia?s citizens,

Aware that numerous organizations have been arranged to supply South Asia?s nations with filtered, drinkable water, most of these sanitation services have been unsuccessful,

I. Expresses Deep Concern

(A) Many actions have been made to progress in creating adequate sanitation systems; these actions have not been made into accomplishments. Under unhygienic living conditions, many people have died, rapidly declining the population growth;

(B) The countries of South Asia overspend money in education, and although education is important, it is not fatal to be without it, whereas adequate sanitation is;

(C) Inadequate sanitation in South Asia correlates to many other weaknesses. In this case, inadequate sanitation correlates to a small population, which brings a smaller workforce, also correlating to a smaller GDP;

II. Is Aware That

(A) Due to the fact that sanitation services are provided by government line departments or state owned utilities, the government and local groups of governance must participate and be active in keeping sanitation systems orderly;

(B) India is steadily improving the conditions of water, but conditions for other countries of South Asia such as Pakistan and Bangladesh are only worsening or improving at a slow rate;

(C) Money is an issue because South Asia is a very poor region. Financial problems will arise when going into projects to improve sanitation;

III Recommends

(A) That the Security Council:

1. Set up a council for South Asia to build systems for water filtering, and other sanitation systems;

2. Set regulations and requirements to have clean water in public areas such as restaurants, parks, schools?etc;

3. Set aside a separate budget each year to be used by the council building sanitation systems to buy needed supplies;

4. Set up social groups to travel around South Asia to speak in schools, public areas, meetings?etc. about the importance of adequate sanitation.
