Some years ago on Court TV there was a special program of important trials. There were excerpts from a few of the Kevorkian trials and it was just at this time that a much younger Geoffrey Fieger was becoming noteworthy. I watched in awe as he worked in the courtroom and he was indeed impressive - but there was a difference then. Fieger was "quietly" impressive. He addressed the court - Judge and Jury - in a respectful, reasonable tone. No theatrics, no grandiosity, just a very passionate advocate for his client. He won every trial; Juries were absolutely mesmerized by his ability with words, his voice, and his demeanor. Rarely did the Judge admonish him and rarely did the Prosecutor have any reason to object. I thought he was simply magnificent. His voice alone was enough to cause swooning among most females.
I watched the Jenny Jones and Nate Abraham trials and he was still impressive, although he had begun developing a different style. He seemed abrasive at times, too loud, too verbose, too much. Fieger was, and still is, a tall, handsome, charismatic man but now there is something else there and IMO it does not serve him well.
He is no longer just a passionate advocate, now he is a side show. He becomes the center of attention and to me it's almost as if the trials are all about him and less about his client. He literally alienates Judges and I suspect Juries too with his dog and pony act. He appears to me so full of himself that he becomes a cartoon character. Loud, obnoxious and over-dramatic. If Juries don't agree with him he doesn't hesitate to call them stupid or Nazi's (remember Florida?). I believe that he literally wears most Judges out until finally they react negatively to him.
In short, he pushes the envelope way over the line.
I still like Fieger, but how I wish the Fieger of old would come back into the courtroom. He is not IMO ageing gracefully and that's a sad waste of exceptional talent.
