Date Posted: 14:14:36 12/23/04 Thu In reply to: Alvin 's message, "Re: Theresa and Denise" on 16:58:32 12/22/04 Wed Dear Alvin, The other day, my husband asked me where my ideal place to live would be. I replied instantly it would be in a forest. I love forests. There must be lakes and streams. I am a water person so I have to have that element near me. My screen saver is a wonderful forest scene which keeps changing. Have you ever heard about anybody meditating on a screen server? I did the other day, because my screen server is a beautiful walk in the forest. I would love for you to meet my father-in-law! He is a true adventurer. He was a professional diver. He met up with a great white shark. He found himself near a shark feeding frenzy. He climbed up to 14,000 feet in the Himalayas. And he has often camped in the jungles in Malaysia with the Asli. My husband went a few times with him to camp in the jungles. My father-in-law speaks about every dialect of Bahasa Indonesia. He is a walking encyclopedia of the cultures of Southeast Asia. The same is true for his knowledge of Southeast Asian flora and fauna. He never formerly studied any of this. But he can tell you every plant's name as you walk along. And what a sense of humour he has. My father-in-law's mother is from Borneo. Take my word for this. You write English so well! As you know, there are many people who cannot write it at all. I have come across posts which were so miserably written. Your command of English is superb! I do not really see traces of Singlish in it. You might find this amusing. I usually take on the language or speech patterns of the place in which I am living. So it was in Singapore. I found myelf saying " lah " and " is it? " I still do that. My husband's friend married an American man. He came to Singapore to be with her for a time before she got her visa. We all went out to dinner. During the conversation, she told me I sounded Singaporean. She said her husband still spoke like an American. I never even thought about it until she mentioned it. All this, however, does not mean I speak Singlish. Far from it. But I have an ear for languages and cadences of speech. Singaporeans have a unique cadence. Love And Blessed Be, Theresa [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
