The old brass bell above the door clanged as another hungry traveler entered the Café. It was a girl, older and taller than Will, but possibly like him in other ways. The intuition that all of his kind shared was working again now, and it told him she was Indigo. He didn’t, however, know whether she was one of the cursed Lightworkers or merely a passer-by trying to find safety. Sometimes they were even unaware of their power. Will peered at the girl in the booth, pondering whether he should do anything or say anything. It wasn’t his problem what she did, but he did know that their numbers were decreasing… and they needed safety in numbers. Perhaps it was his turn to follow the ‘Lightworker way’ and recruit some ‘lost children’. He smirked, perhaps it was time.

His sandwich was finished off quickly and his coffee gulped down, the liquid was hot, but it didn’t burn him - nothing burned him. After a moment’s hesitation, he made his way quickly to her booth. Sitting in the seat across he paused a moment. “Blue eyes?” The question was coded - it meant indigo to those who knew the code, but only ‘blue eyes’ to those around. He sighed, realizing she probably didn’t know the code. “What I mean is…” His voice lowered to a hushed whisper, “indigo?” It was risky to utter the word in public, the humans were accusing of anyone who seemed different.
