The mission was to be run by a "woman". The Ramakrishna group in India wouldn't allow it to be part of the organization. That is why today the mission is not associated in any way with Vedanta society of So Calif (which has the vedanta temples in Orange Co, San Diego, Hollywood, Wash DC, an a retreat "farm" in No NY State)
