Must be some purpose to it. The other thing was most centers were self supporting and self governing with a center leader. This made it easier to tailor to needs. The current set up is a safety valve of sorts.

I know a guy who wanted to be near Sri Chinmoy in the inner circle. He was a SRF devotee that wanted a "living" guru. Chinmoy told him "you want to become like one of THESE people?"

Satya Sai Baba says those closest to his body are furthest from his spirit. Ramananda (direct to Anandamoyi Ma) said her inner circle was nuts also. All of the sudden Ma jumped up from meditation and ran out of the room. The devotees that fashioned themselves her "protectors" screamed in terror "grab Ma!!!!" She ran out and leaped onto a train with the devotees grabbing at her heals. (Does Ma really know what she is doing or is she insane?....HMMMM) Ma later returned with an old blind woman. She said this woman was miles away and lost in an alley and was crying for Ma. Ma went and found her. "How can Ma do kirtan when a devotee is crying like this for her!" She said. It seems to me most in this inner circle are out for power gained vicariously. I have been told the same goes for many of Daya Ma's "helpers". They don't tell her the real problems and shield devotees from her.

I saw Daya Ma last year at Mt Washington and an old biddy insisted I vacate the room. I was there already to see someone else. I did as she asked but this lady knew me for years and all I wanted to do was smile at Ma and pronam. Such nonsense. I talked to the monks and they said even they are not allowed to see Ma and if she walks by them of her own accord her helpers will be thinking you will pounce on her. Only a few psychos would do so. This is catering to fear and spoiling it for the majority.

Yogananda said when he was gone he would be more with us. Bimalananda explains it is because we have to attune with his Spirit--hence he is more with us when we do so. It is not the case that he is more aware without a body. No matter what realm the guru is at it does not matter.
