    • "You know, in this world we live in, cell phones are so inescapable. Personally though, I find it the most rude when people are constantly answering or making calls while out to eat... • "I hate when my pregnant girlfriend doesn't respect my simple requests, Dominique." He stated with a growl to his voice, his brow furrowed as he leaned forward to pick up the cigar and taking a long drag off of it. "When are you coming home?" It wasn't that he didn't want her to have a life. He would love for her to be able to come and go as she pleased, to be able to go out with her friends, to go shopping or to a movie with the girls but unfortunantly because of the life she had been unknowingly dragged into, that just wasn't an option for her. Until Luca was behind bars in isolation, unable to get any of his cronies to do his dirty work, Dom had to live life in a gilded cage. All Brett could do was make life as easy as possible for her but also unfortunantly, it wasn't in his nature to be appeasing or cajoling. He was used to saying jump and having people say how high and the fact that Dom fought him like she did both enraged him and also endeared her even more to him..... • "Every half hour, Brett? That's a bit excessive." She, once again, expressed her displeasure at having to be babysat twenty-four/seven, despite the fact that she knew that he believed wholeheartedly that it was necessary. Sighing quietly, she rubbed her stomach slowly, shrugging even though he couldn't see the gesture - though she could see him imagining her doing it, just as she could imagine him sitting at his desk, elbow on the desk, or maybe leaning back in his chair. "I don't know, baby... We just finished up eating..." They'd talked about strolling down the boardwalk and maybe popping in to a couple of stores along the way - it was a chilly winter day, but the sun was out and they were all dressed appropriately. • The displeasure in her voice was nothing new. Sadly, he was used to her being pissed with him and he had a feeling it wasn't going to stop being such a regular occurance until Luca was gone. He was the thorn in their side, the dent in their relationship even though he was no longer directly in Dom's life. He was a stumbling block for them to grow together and Brett was painfully aware of that. His hand lifted to run over his face before he spoke again, carefully. "Did you eat enough?" The question was not to pressing, he supposed. It was one that any concerned father to be would prose to his baby's mother. She usually ate pretty well, she was healthy, he just got worried that was all. If anything was to happen to her or the baby it would send him over the edge. It wouldn't kill him, he would live through it, but he would be a shell of a man bent only on revenge and once he had that...well then he would have nothing. • This was typically how things went - he would make her mad, she would voice her displeasure, then give a little, and then if he would give a little back, then that made all the difference in how things progressed from there. She hated fighting with him, and she always felt bad afterwards for getting so upset with him when he was just trying to look out for her. At his question, her own voice softened, and her gaze dropped to her hand spread over her stomach, lips forming something of a pout. "I ate a lot... I think maybe you might have been a little disgusted with me if you had been here. I think I've put on like ten pounds since you saw me this morning... • His demeanor softened at her words and anyone watching him would have seen his body visibly relaxing as he went into reassuring mode. "You know you could never disgust me and I am not sharing my bed, I am sharing our bed." He smiled softly at the thought of her all round and uncomfortable but still curled up close to him at night. It was adorable and endearing to him. "I picked up some strawberry gelato earlier for you for when you get home." He smiled softly knowing she would be excited about that before he just sighed softly. "If you go anywhere after the bistro, Bella, just call and let me know where you are and who you are with, alright?" He wavered a touch, just wanting her to be happy but wanting her to be safe also. • "I know.. I just like hearing it..." She admitted without a hint of shame - every girl, especially very pregnant ones, wanted to be reassured every once in a while that she was still desirable. At the thought of the strawberry gelato that would be waiting at home, she brightened a little, a wider smile forming on her fine, glossed lips. "You're a saint. I love you." Her gaze was back to drifting over the other inhabitants of the quaint but popular place - but the moment that she made eye contact with the tall and slender and obviously well-built dark-featured man staring blatantly at from from where he sat alone out in the patio, she stopped looking around and inhaled a soft but sharp breath. He was looking right at her and wanted her to know it, and she knew that she should tell her boyfriend on the other end of the call, but instead she cleared her throat and stammered a little into the phone. • He was a trained federal agent, a united states marshal and as soon as the tone of her voice changed he felt it go through his body, the warning that told him that something wasn't right. "Dominique." He stated with a tone of voice that spoke no nonsense. "What is it, baby?" He questioned, his words tender but his tone all business. "Do you have a bad feeling?" He wasn't into pyschics or anything like that but he had no doubt in the power of a woman's intuition. "If you are scared, Dom, just tell me you love me, you understand?" • He was so far away - across the whole restaurant - that if she hadn't known him so well once, she wouldn't have been able to recognize him. It was definitely him though, and he was smiling at her from behind dark glasses, lifting his fingers in a quiet wave. Her hand moved instinctively to her stomach, protectively spreading there as she shook her head slowly - to herself, to Brett, and to Luca himself watching her. "They're at the table... I have to go though, but I'll call you soon. I love you." The words were out of her mouth without her meaning to say them - she said it out of habit, not to warn him. Strangely enough, she was feeling an intense need to deal with this by herself - she didn't want him to be here, because she knew that even though he sat alone, Luca would have people around him...   • As soon as he saw her moving he was out after her, stepping up behind her and quickly shutting up Marc who was trying to tell her to just be calm and stay where she was. His eyes were hard and cold when he gazed down at her, his tone firm. "Unless your water is breaking this very second, Dominique, I suggest you go sit back down with the friends that you so desperately needed to spend time with this afternoon." He nearly growled out the words, frustation lining his tone and features. It was all born out of fear though he would never admit it. He was afraid for her, afraid that next time he wouldn't get there in time. He knew his arrival was what had sent Luca taking off, that the man hadn't planned out the execution of his desires well enough this time but next time...well Luca wouldn't make the same mistake. He was scared to death of losing her, he felt like he couldn't breathe and he just had to stay in this hard agent mode in order to keep from freaking out completely. • With her very pregnant hormones raging and wreaking havoc on her emotions - she had actually found herself tearing up the other day when, just after she had vacuumed, she had spilled some crumbs on the floor - hearing those words from him in that tone was almost more than she could handle. Her soft eyes widened a little and she actually shifted away from him and sidled up closer to the other agent without thinking about it and without looking away from Brett. Her lower jaw quivered and she inhaled short, uneven breaths through her nose as tears now poured down her cheeks - she was trying very hard to check her panic and if not for the baby growing inside of her she likely would have been able to blink away the tears and return to the table with her friends. • Marc frowned and looked down at the near sobbing girl in his arms, so elegant and delicate and he couldn't help but look up and glare at his friend. "Lay off, Brett." He growled out before he rested a hand on the woman's lower back and guided her over to a bench. Kneeling down, he smiled a little and looked up at her. "He's just being a scaredy cat and hiding it by trying to be a bad ass, sweetie. Believe me, I know." He remembered when his wife had been the target of a hitman's bullet and he was well accustomed to the panic and the clenching pain and worry in the gut that Brett was now experiencing. "He'll be begging your forgiveness later, you want my opinion, you should make him beg for it." He grinned lightly, winking teasingly as he reached up to brush away her tears. • Her gaze dropped away from Brett as soon as the other agent spoke, and she allowed herself to be guided away. Once she was safely seated where it was a little bit quieter, she squeezed her eyes shut and opened her mouth to allow a few deep breaths into her lungs - she hadn't been getting much oxygen from the short gasps of before. When Marc spoke again, her quivering jaw had settled a little so she could respond, but it was still quite pitiful. "I just want to go home..." Her big brown eyes still shining, she was practically pleading with him to help make that happen - clearly Brett wasn't concerned at that moment about what she wanted and she could only hope that this man would be even just a little bit. "I am going to go help him out with the questioning so he can get you home sooner. Do you want your friends to sit with you?" • She watched Marc quietly as he spoke, and then nodded a touch to show she heard what he was saying - though it didn't mean that she wanted to go home any less. She was just about to respond very adamantly that she didn't want her friends over here - she didn't know how to explain anything - but was silenced by Brett's arrival. Her eyes wide as she looked up to him and then watched as he sat down - she briefly made a mental note to thank this Marc guy for being so nice to her another day when she was feeling more like herself. A soft whimper escaped her lips as his hand brushed her hair, and she turned into him immediately, her face ducking into his neck and her fresh tears dampening his skin and the collar of his shirt. • He sighed softly, shifting to bring her closer into his arms comfortably. His face ducked to rest his cheek against the top of her head, his eyes closed as he just held her maybe a little bit to tightly. His breathing was slow and even despite the inner turmoil he had been feeling all day and even at the moment his heart was pounding a little bit rougher then natural. "Do you understand, Bella, why it hurts me to have you out of my sight?" He rasped gently against her hair, his eyes opening for a moment to survey his surroundings before he focused back on her once more. He had to keep alert, had to pay attention and he hated that when all he wanted was to hold her, kiss her and make her feel safe again....all he wanted was to make her feel safe and loved....and he couldn't even accomplish that. • "I'm sorry..." She murmured against the skin of the side of his neck - thankful for the familiar scent of him that filled her nostrils every time she inhaled. Even if this wasn't directly her fault, it was her fault to some extent and she felt responsible for causing so much trouble and for causing him so much distress. Finally, she raised her face and met his gaze, her head ducking a little bit shyly as she brushed at her damp eyes - but she was more in control now that she had let some of that out. She knew that there was work to be done here, but she desperately just wanted him to take her home and keep her safe there, and she wanted to crawl into their big soft bed with him and close out the rest of the world. Do you want me to have someone take you home?" She could stay and wait for him or wait for him at home, either way, he had to remain at the scene and then after that he would need to go over any intel to see if they could find the safehouse that Luca was using in the area.... She admitted finally, both hands still spread protectively over her stomach, and she was quiet for another long moment before leaning in a little closer to him again. "Let's get married, Brett.. • He nodded a little, already pulling out his phone when she continued speaking. His eyes dropped down to hers, wondering if it was just the slight panic speaking. • After making sure that he would settle things with her friends who would undoubtably be wondering at some point where she had disappeared off to, she willingly kissed him one final time and then ducked into the taxi. She promised to call him as he asked, and then settled back for the drive home, waving out the window to him until they were away, and then slouching down into the seat and resting her head back. Thoughts of a hot bath and a warm fireplace and a big mug of hot cocoa kept her entertained for the ride, but it wasn't until she was inside the saftey of the security-monitored building, and then upstairs in the apartment that she was beginning to feel significantly better. Punching in his number and then tucking her phone between her ear and shoulder, she waited while it rang for him to answer, perched on the edge of the luxurious jacuzzi tub as the water ran - setting up that bath for herself that she had been thinking about.. "I am sending a guy over to the apartment just to check things out and pick up Sirus. Go on and lock yourself in the bathroom, take a long soak, listen to some music and he will be there and gone without you even noticing." He was thinking about getting another dog, one to stay home with her - a well trained guard dog. "He's on the bed sleeping... They'll maybe need a cookie to wake him up." Even as she spoke, she ducked out of the bathroom for a moment to check on the big growing dog - flat out in the middle of the bed. She leaned down to kiss the pup's head, and ducked her face into the fur of his neck before disappearing back into the bathroom and locking the door behind herself. Sending the dog off to work felt to her like sending Brett off sometimes - the danger of getting hurt was high but still necessary... "Are you going to be late, you think baby?" A smile played on his lips as he listened to her interacting with the dog. She loved Sirus just as much as she loved him, he was pretty sure of it. "Ah, sweetheart, I gotta go but you just relax and I will be home before long." He murmured quietly, wanting to get this done with so that he could get home to his girl and his baby. It wasn't that the apartment wasn't secure, it was perfectly so but it wasn't just the need to protect her that had him aching to be home. Tucking the phone between her ear and shoulder, she unbuttoned and slipped out of her jeans - low slung to rest below the swell of her stomach - as she spoke to him. "Alright, back to work you. • Her long, warm bath had her completely relaxed so that by the time the water cooled she only had the energy to drag herself out of the tub, towel off, and then crawl beneath the plentiful blankets on their king-sized bed, worn out from the stress and panic of the eventful day. She braided her long, dark hair low and loosely over one shoulder before burrowing down into the pillows and dozing off for a while. She was just waking up when he let himself in, and she actually tensed for a moment as she strained her ears to listen to the movements in the rest of the apartment. It was easy for her to determine it was him though - so familiar with his sounds she was - and so she relaxed immediately, a warm and fuzzy smile softening her features as she nestled back down into a fluffy pillow to wait for him to discover her. • He came into the bedroom and smiled gently at her, he could see her bare shoulder peeking out from under the big blanket on their huge bed. "Hey amoria..." He murmured gently, his voice soft. He shifted to sit on the edge of the bed, watching her for a moment before his fingertips trailed down to run across her shoulder, enjoying the soft feel of skin there. Her skin was always so damned soft, it amazed him how she did it because he never saw her throwing on lotion or anything...maybe she just did it when he wasn't there. • "Hello love..." She murmured gently and smiled up at him, scooting a little closer to where he was sitting. Her brows furrowed in soft consternation at his questions, her lips pursing for a moment. "I was going to make you dinner... I lost track of time though. I'll get up now to fix things." She offered dutifully - not because she thought he expected it of her at all, but because she liked taking care of him whenever she could. Her smile returned at his warm, large fingers on her cool, soft shoulder, and she raised a hand out from beneath the blankets to curl lightly around his wrist, squeezing affectionately and gaze quietly adoring. A smile played on his lips as he reached down to press a kiss to her lips. "Are you hungry? Do you want me to make you something while I am in the kitchen?" She smiled slightly and a hand raised to the back of his neck to hold him down at her level to extend his second kiss - still sweet, but longer, warmer before she loosened her hold on him. • His hand shifted beneath the covers to run over her bare stomach, a smile on his face as he felt the baby kick beneath his large hand. She always responded to him, like she just knew he was the one who was her Dad. Pulling back from the kiss, he nodded a little, pressing his lips to her forehead. "Just stay here and relax, I'll get whatever you need later." He smiled sweetly before he stood up and headed out into the kitchen with the not so patiently waiting Sirus. • Her features just softened at the response that their lively daughter always had to the feel of her daddy's touch and a smile lingered over her features a little as she watched him head back for the kitchen. She knew that there was no point in trying to convince the dog to visit her before he had his dinner - he wasn't unlike Brett in that way, for sure.
