The Fairfield University women's basketball team begins the 2005-06 campaign this evening, hosting Brown University, at the Arena at Harbor Yard, at 7:30 p.m. The game is the first of the year for both squads. The Stags, a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) posted a 12-17 record in 2004-05 and finished fourth in the MAAC at 9-9. Brown, a member of the Ivy League, went 18-9 last season, including a 10-4 mark against Ivy opponents.

The Fairfield-Brown Series: This is the fourth meeting for the Stags and the Bears, with Fairfield having won each of the previous three meetings. The teams last met in the 1993-94 season opener, with the Stags prevailing 85-81 in overtime. The first meeting came a decade earlier, in the opening round of the Warner's Classic at Fairfield, with the Stags putting up an 89-84 victory. The other meeting was in the Championship Game of the 1989 Warner's Classic, with the Stags earning the largest margin of victory in the series to date, 84-74.
