Subject: Rams vs. Stags Predictions
Suprised to see the Sports Network has us as 7 pt favorites tonight. The Daily News has us as 1 point favorites. I think you can flip a coin on this one, daily news gave us the point edge because we are at home. Stags and Rams are both weak this year, but havce both shown flashes of hope. Depends which teams show up tonight. I think the Stags will come out hungry tonight, they dont want to go into the break with another loss, particularly after the gtown spanking, and they know they can win this one. I think they will come out with a lot of fire tonight.
The Sports Network
DATE & TIME: Wednesday, December 14th, 7:30 p.m. (et).
FACTS & STATS: Site: Arena at Harbor Yards (9,500) -- Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Television: None. Home Record: Fordham 0-2, Fairfield 0-3. Away Record:
Fordham 1-2, Fairfield 0-3. Neutral Record: Fordham 1-2, Fairfield 1-0.
Conference Record: Fordham 0-0, Fairfield 0-0. Series Record: Fordham leads,
30-10.
GAME NOTES: Two teams looking to turn their respective seasons around will
meet tonight in Bridgeport, when the Fairfield Stags host the Fordham Rams at
the Arena at Harbor Yards. After posting their only win of the season, an
80-68 victory over Tulane, the Stags have lost two straight games, including
an embarrassing 76-51 setback to Georgetown this past Sunday. Fairfield opened
its campaign with four straight setbacks, including two in Bridgeport to Saint
Joseph's (72-41) and Providence (81-78). The Stags have not given their fans
much to cheer about, especially at home where the team has dropped seven of
its last eight contests dating back to last season. As for the Rams, they
snapped a four-game losing skid with a thrilling 62-60 victory over Virginia
last Wednesday. Fordham opened its season with two straight setbacks before
beating Norfolk State (72-53) for the team's first victory of the season.
Since the 2000-01 season, the Rams are just 9-43 on the road, and that
includes the team's 1-2 mark away from Fordham this year. In regards to the
all-time series between the two schools, the Rams hold a commanding 30-10 lead
over Fairfield. Fordham has won 13 of the last 15 meetings with the Stags,
which includes last season's 84-68 victory at the Rose Hill Gym.
Coming into this contest the Rams have been dreadful offensively, scoring over
70 points just twice this season, while averaging a meager 62.6 ppg behind
just 40.5 percent shooting effort from the field. In the team's last matchup,
a two-point victory over Virginia, the Rams put forth one of their better
offensive performances, shooting 45.3 percent from the field, which included a
9-of-21 showing from long range. Jermaine Anderson, who is leading the team
with 16.6 ppg, paced Fordham in the victory, scoring 21 points to go along
with six rebounds and five assists. Bryant Dunston was the only other Ram to
finish the contest with double figures, posting 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting
from the field. On the season, Dunston is averaging a healthy 16.4 ppg, while
collecting a team-best 7.3 rpg. Marcus Stout, who is averaging 12.9 ppg this
season, struggled in the victory, connecting on just 3-of-12 shots from the
floor en route to an eight-point performance.
The Stags are only averaging 65.4 ppg this season, however the real problem
has been at the defensive end of the court where the team is allowing a
whopping 75.9 ppg behind a 51.4 percent shooting effort. In the Stags' last
contest, an embarrassing 25-point setback to Georgetown, the team struggled
again defensively, allowing the Hoyas to shoot 50.0 percent from the floor,
which included a 12-of-34 showing from long range. Offensively the team wasn't
much better, as the Stags connected on just 38.5 percent of their shots, which
included just an 8-of-24 clip from behind the arc. Terrence Todd, who is
leading the team with 13.7 ppg, posted 14 points to go along with six rebounds
against Georgetown. Jonathan Han added 10 points in the loss, while Danny
Oglesby tallied nine points. On the season, Han is averaging 11.7 ppg for
Fairfield to go along with 4.1 rpg. Michael Bell, who is posting 9.7 ppg this
season, struggled against Georgetown, shooting just 1-of-6 from the floor,
ending the night with just three points.
Neither team has played well offensively, however with that said the Stags
should be able to come away with a victory, despite their recent woes at home.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Fairfield 73, Fordham 66

Stags vs. Rams reminds me of the days when Fordham, Holy Cross, Army and LaSalle were part of the MAAC. Anyone remember when the MAAC was actually divided into 2 divisions - MAAC NOrth and MAAC South? Kind of a shame those teams left. Fordham and Holy Cross in particular because I think there was some real rivalry there, more so than with any of the current MAAC teams. Tonight will be fun to relive the MAAC heyday.

Pitt SF, you remind of the glory years of the 1980s, when the MAAC produced much better rivalries than they do now. The great thing about the league then was you could drive anywhere in the league and make it back that same night! And there was great competition among teams that had such players as Billy McCafferty (HC), Steve Burt and Rory Grimes (Iona), Kevin Houston (Army), Lionel Simmons (La Salle), and of course our own Jerry Hobbie on Fordham. And our two year run with AJ, T George, Gromos, Yerina, TOT, Golden, etc. was certainly very exciting. I do not believe however, that the league was ever split into two divisions.

The MAAC was split into a north/south for like a year when Niagara, Canisius and, I think, Siena joined. They compressed it the year after that when HC, Fordham and Lasalle left.

I will go for a prediction. I think Stags will be hungry for a home win, and win by a bucket. I have not predicted many win so far this year. I thought we would beat St Francis, Tulane and Loyola, and be 3-4 at this point.

You are correct campion 109, i think it was the 89-90 season. Joestag - i agree with your prediction, i am calling for an ugly game with the stags pulling out a 66-60 win, based on a strong game for Todd who will have something to prove after last years lost to the rams.

UGH!!! Again -- alum, 08:19:02pm 12/14/05 Wed, [1]
The team hustles but are simply outtalented. Fordham is not very good, despite their win over Virginia (minus Singletary). As I recall, even lowly Siena beat them by 10.

Re: UGH!!! Again -- JoeStag, 08:30:05pm 12/14/05 Wed, [1]
50-35 at half. Our defense is just not getting it done. and a 21-0 run by Fordham in a 5 minute run was a killer about 5 t/o's in that run.
We shoot 50% from the arc and so does Fordham, so our strength is still not a strength

Re: UGH!!! Again -- Slow Your Roll, 10:20:53pm 12/14/05 Wed, [1]
"Lowly" Saints are 4-3 with victories over America East favorite, an A10 and last years MAAC champs on their home court. I would slow down talking about "lowly" right now. The only "lowly" team is our own.

THE PROBLEM -- Bridgeport, 08:02:03am 12/15/05 Thu, [1]
due to a lack of people in the front court , we are over compensating with the help defense, then, after a ball reversal,
----- a open look------If it dosent go, the put back does.
TOT thinks it is a lack of fight. We think its a poor philosophy
designed to cover other problems ( size ) .
this team does not lack effort, or fight, it just did not get all the pieces required at the time santa was filling his bag at the recruiting warehouse.

Unfortunately, due to the investigation that led to NOTHING, the warehouse was closed.

Everyone's points are valid. However, our defensive scheme is terrible. It is like 5 chickens running around with their heads cut off. Does TOT really think that college players can't hit wide open three point shots? Does he think that double or triple teaming the ball is going to be effective against anyone who can walk and chew gum at the same time? Don't blame your players, LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND LOOK HARD!

Re: UGH!!! Again -- JoeStag, 01:13:52pm 12/15/05 Thu, [1]
I think I saw similar things vs G-Town, where a player was wide open at the arc and two players ran after him. The players were trying hard, but were out of position.
In the same manner, there were too many times where a G-Town player took us off a pick and both our players either went with the dribber or with the picker.... again putting us out of position with a man open.
We should not be triple teaming and only double teaming when the opportunities make sense. I do not like teh idea of packing it in and getting beat buy 3's. I would rather us trying to beat them by our 3-pointers against their 2-pointers.
