Subject: Paradise Lost

I was reading Paradise Lost last night for my Renaissance Lit. class and I came across a passage that intrigued me. In Book 4, from line 460 to line 475, Milton describes Eve's first day of life. She remembers that when she first awoke she heard water running and found her way to a lake. Once there she knelt over the water and, seeing her reflection, fell in love. In fact, she even notes that if a voice had not warned her that she only saw herself she probably would have remained pining with "vain desire". I found this passage comparing Eve to Narcissus incredibly interesting, especially since we read the Narcissus myth and Genesis within just days other.
