Nice! You say of Eve that "In fact, she even notes that if a voice had not warned her that she only saw herself she probably would have remained pining with "vain desire"." This actually happen in a way in the myth of Narcissus and Echo, does it not? Narcissus recognizes that it is himself, and yet he continues to stare in vain desire, yet Narcissus says that "I want that which I desire to stand apart from my own self" (96). I think this is a big difference between the myth of Narcissus and Echo and Paradise Lost. Now, admittedly I have not read all of Paradise Lost myself, but if I remember the context correctly, Eve turns away from the desire of her reflection. So in a way she recognizes what Narcissus cannot accept: that her image cannot be separated from her and that therefore she cannot attain it. She moves past it, but Narcissus cannot. Great comparison you brought up.
