Great example. The idea that people just naturally want to be recognized for their work is so true. I think it is most evident in the entertainment industry and in sports. When your job is to be in front of people doing something you want everyone to take notice of your effort. I think all too often an actor/actress or designer or a athlete will think they did more work than they did and want people to come up to them and sing their praises. They forget about everyone else that helped them. Usually it is probably due to competition from a “rival”. Like the example you give he is upset because he knows there is someone else out there doing the trick and being able to stand on stage himself and get the credit for it. The fact that he is so close to being at least as talented as the rival is much more painful than not even being close. It’s like the example Dr. Jackson gave with fashion in class. The person who is more out of fashion is not the one who dresses completely differently than what is in style but the one who is just shy of being considered “fashionable” (i.e. the one who is always a day behind).
