Are you posing the idea that there is no escape from mimetic rivalry or triangular desire? Because I'm not sure if that is quite wholly true. I think that Sartre does a great job taking these rivalries to the extreme, but I also think that three people could live in contentment with each other as well. There could be that positive mimesis that Girard mentions. I'm not really arguing with your point, I just think that Sartre takes things to the extreme. I also think that it depends on the mix of people that you have together. After all, these three were chosen to spend "hell" together in eternity. The devil character has a list and knows exactly who will be staying in this room. It was chosen specifically for them. Doesn't Inez mention this?
