Subject: Question about violence

I'm thinking about the last day of class when we discussed how violence can be taken much further than Girard wanted to take it. Insults can be considered violent and all language boils into a mimetic rivalry. Girard means physical violence though, and he wants to avoid anything that leads to violence.
What about rivalries that don't lead to violence. Do we define any rivalry that doesn't lead to violence as a healthy rivalry. Rivalry over generosity doesn't lead to violence. I'm sure rivalry over sloth wouldn't either. Is that bad? Maybe we need to fine tune this or some things will extend into absurdity.
