Subject: I hate reading my life mimetically...

So, there is a free table in the library where anyone can pick up old books and keep them. Best idea ever, right? Many of the books placed on the shelf are good, but some, such as books on being a good house wife from the 1950's, find their only value as gag-gifts. A book I picked up this last weekend fell into the gag-gift category. As I was walking out with this book that I didn't really want, a friend saw it under my arm and showed some excitement. He said that the topic was one of his interests and asked if he could have it. Instinctively, I recoiled and told him that he could borrow it at a later date, but that I wanted to read it first. Later, in my room, I realized that I wasn't at all interested in the inner workings of the black panthers and never had been. It appears as though I had appropriate the desires of a friend who had appropriated a desire he perceived to have emanated from me. I have found myself to be the victim of triangular desire. Crap. Apparently, we have blind spots that come and go.
