Subject: Proper use of Violence

Violence is bad, but not all violence is bad. I was reading a Lewis poem before our mimetic theory final. The poem is called "Dragon-Slayer." Its about, clearly, a man describing his fight with a dragon. After he kills the beast, he bites into its heart and "felt a pulse within me start." The poem ends with the Dragon Slayer declaring (between shouts of Io Paean!) "Now I know the stakes I played for, / Now I know what a worm's made for!" I appreciate what Dr Jackson said on the last day of class, that mimetic theory did not condemn all violence or turn all men into emasculated shells of their proper barbarian selves. There is a point to violence, there can be an end to it that is good (the driving of the dragon from the hills or the moneychangers from the temple).
