A friend of mine is a Christian who has specialized on evangelizing the Turks (there are many Turks in Germany). This year he visited Istanbul. The Turks don't seem to care so much about religion as other Muslims. Usually, the mosques are not very well frequented. But there is one mosque, the Eyüp mosque, where it is different. As a non-Muslim, you are normally not allowed to enter it, not even the district, but my friend did it anyway. He said in the yard of the mosque, and the whole district, there was a huge crowd, all very fanatic, crying or praying, different from the rest of the town. The mosque is considered the holiest place for Muslims after Mekka, Medina and Jerusalem, because here, Mohammed's colour sergeant Eyüp Ensari is buried. My friend even dared to enter the grave of that man, where the Muslims came to worship his shrine or something. Many of them broke together and fell down or were in kind of trance. They left the room backwards, because they did not want to turn their backs to the "holy" place. He said he never had a more horrifying experience than that, because he could feel the presence of demonic powers. He said normally he has no special gift to sense demonic spirits or anything, but here it was so manifest, that he could perceive it very clearly and it was terrifying. Many people say that all religions lead to God. But they are also a means of the devil to confuse and control people.
