I agree with you, Mike. War is horrible. But without some kind of action, there would be no peace.

Like I stated before, if this counter-action results in more damage than the original action, then what?
They attacked a building. In return, America attacked a country. Now, if they attack a country, will America eradicate a continent?
This will never create paece. Violence is the way of the world.
Ghandi and Martin Luther King are examples of how to win a battle with a strict nonviolence paradigm.
MLK had the people to fight against the bigoted police forces, but what would he have accomplished? Like this, he won the battle, because he won the minds and hearts of America. This is the true victory, and the Christian victory.

America took the strategy of bombing out potential sources of terror, not the strategy of getting an Islam expert to reeducate these people to prove to them that binLaden's fanatical interpretation doesn't fit the Qum'ran.

Like UBF: If we did not "war" against them, they would not be walking on the pins and needles they are on now.

But you need to be aware that binLaden's case is different: at first, he was a crazy guy. He didn't have too many followers, just a few powerful adherents and a couple of loyalists. But due to the media attention he got, he's now world-famous. Adding to that, the images broadcast about the actions of America, how America so boldly declares a war against terror but is arresting innocent people, torturing them in camps like Abu Ghraib - you know details get exaggerated by Arabic TV andanyways, binLaden says "Muslims suffer because of America" and then you see Abu Ghraib. Does it help in the war against terror?
Because of the single incident Abu Ghraib, binLaden probably gained more followers that he ever had before 9/11.
And he's gaining power with every day where American troops patrol in Muslim countries.

Unlike UBF, binLaden probably is craving the attention he is getting, because "see the evil terrorists" doesn't do anything to the minds of people who lost a relative, an arm or their property due to US bombings. These people will only be strengthened in their belief that binLaden is the good guy and America only wished to mindcontrol them.

It would be much better if America invested a few billion $ to broadcast sound islamic doctrine in Muslim countries, debunking terrorism than continually trying to paint a bad image about binLaden.

Every minute of TV time where the name of binLaden or AlQuaeda terror is mentioned is a victory for binLaden.
At least as long as he can simply point towards people who were killed by the US military in their "crusade against terror".
Every Muslim who dies in this "crusade" is a victory for binLaden.

So, no, I do not believe that "action" is a great help. At least as long as it causes casualties.
