Subject: Situation in Germany

Some comments about the current situation in Germany. I wrote them in a personal email today, but they will fit also here:

Economy in Germany is in a severe crisis. We lost a lot of jobs due to globalization. In order to save the rest of the jobs, the people have to work longer with reduced salary. German politicians are permanently thinking about disestablishing public holidays. Recently, they made the "Buss- und Bettag" a normal working day. The name of that day means "Day for repentance and praying." However, today people don't understand the importance of such things, and economy is considered more important. As if this was not enough, the politicians (even our chancellor Schroeder) now want to disestablish the "German reunification day" on October 3rd. When he was rebuked for having no sense for national issues by our president, he withdrew the proposal, but they are now targeting other holidays such as Pentecost Monday. On the other side, green politician Christian Stroebele voted for installing an Islamic holiday in Germany. Christianity is systematically disassebled here, and the churches are constantly getting smaller. I would like to vote for the green party if they really had environmental issues in mind, but they put more emphasis on all kinds of other ideas, mostly anti-Christian, and neglect the environmental politics. Because of the economical crisis, we are currently in the "funny" situation that people either have no job at all and live from benefit payments, or they have too much work and no leisure time at all, constantly worrying they may lose the job. Another problem is that our population structure is very unhealthy. We have too many old people and little young people. Plus, the whole society is moralically declining. Sorry if I sound pathetic, but that's the situation in Germany. And if you look into the world, the problems are even bigger, with wars and terror everywhere, globalization, climatic change etc.

This makes me put all my hope in the Kingdom of God. It is good to have a "living hope" despite of all the world around us crumbling down, istn't it? There will be many ups and downs before the end of the world. Maybe this is the final "down" already, but we shouldn't have this as a fixed thought, maybe there will be another "up." Maybe.
