] Date Posted: 22:39:55 04/11/05 Mon Hi there, this is the first time I've been on your site. I've recently become interested in road cycling and was pointed in this direction to get some info. I've been shopping around for bikes aquiring a little knowledge but I've run across a brand that interests me. It is "Opus" just wondering if anyone has heard about these bikes or actually rides one. Just want to make sure I do my research before I make my purchase. Thanks to any responses. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 22:05:23 04/25/05 Mon Hi Josh, About 4 years ago when I was shopping for a new bike, I looked at Opus. They seemed like good bikes at the time, and probably still are. I took one out for a short test ride (from River Valley Cycle when they were still on Whyte Ave.), and was reasonably impressed. I untimately settled on a Marinoni though, purely because the Opus's were all aluminum frames and I had read recommendations against Alu for lighter riders (I'm about 140lbs), because of the stiffer frame which could be a problem on longer rides. Carbon seatstays, forks, and seatposts (like on the Andante) should mimimise this problem however. I don't think this was available when I was looking. Dave [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 19:59:32 05/04/05 Wed The model is more important than the brand. Opus makes a lot of different bikes, just like Ford makes a lot of different vehicles. Is a Mustang better than an F-150? It is if you want to go fast, but the F-150 is a lot more rugged and can haul a lot more. So is Ford any good? It depends what job you want it to do. Bikes are the same - more important than the brand is if it matches the riding you want to do. Off road? Racing? Loaded touring? Member Don Peddie wrote a great article on choosing bikes, which you can access in the back issue of the Spokes newsletter. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
