While global warming certainly takes place, I have doubts about mankind's role in it. You know, mere 1000 years ago Greenland was, well, green :) and the overall climate was warmer and more moist. 3-4 thousand years ago Greece, Asia Minor and Palestina had abundant forests and stuff, there were lions in modern Italy and elephants in China (that's no joke, in southern Vietnam there are still some.) Middle East which is generally dry, arid place now also was forested in the past millennia, and Persian princes hunted with domesticated cheetahs for dogs.

About 1300-1600 ad the global cooling occured, the viking colonies in Greenland died out and the climate set to what it used to be before 1900s. In 20th century a new warming started and continues to this day.

This may be just another cycle... But what I'm sure is that the planet's nature, the environment in which man was created, is well dead now and will only rot further. No effort and no greenpeace can stop this, just because you can't control the enrire human population. Go Elves! Hehe.
