Laurie,

First, be thankful that if it was indeed a badger, that it didn't break the window. Badgers are strong and sometimes will charge.

You should have window well covers installed right away so that other animals don't fall in. Skunks have poor eyesight and are often found in windwow wells.

I assume you have a wood deck. The badger may have been living under the deck for sometime or it could of just been passing through. The only way to know for sure is to close the gap (what we call a soft closure) between the deck and ground by leaning boards or any material against the opening that would allow the animal to push it away to exit. DO NOT affix any material that would cause the animal to cause more damage trying to get out. If the soft closure remains undisturbed for 3 days, you can feel comfortable closing the gap with a permanent material so that further animals don't nest under the deck.

Badgers can be somewhat aggresive and appear at sundown. I would use caution letting children play especially unsupervised in the area. Most animals will not attack unless they feel threatened and a badger could perceive a young childs curiosity as a threat.

Good Luck,
