美緬因州參、眾兩院本週表決通過同志反歧視法草案，州長巴大齊(John Baldacci) 31日簽署草案，草案著即生效。不過，某保守派團體已誓言發動廢法，意圖把這條法案列入下次選舉的公投項目。

新的法案修正了緬因州人權法中有關就業、房屋租賃買賣、信用貸款、公共設施的使用及性向與性別教育等方面的歧視性規定。草案週一、週二陸續通過參、眾院表決後，參院週三同意眾院建議，增加了一項解釋條文，條文中說，本法案不致被擴大解釋用來作為同志婚姻的但書。據了解，增加這段文字是為了安撫反對派人士。

無端多出的一段文字，雖然令人不舒服，緬州最大LGBT同志團體平權緬因(Equality Maine)，對法案的通過仍給予最大肯定。

不過，即使如此，基督教保守派團體緬基民盟(Christian Civic League of Maine)還是不肯善罷干休，他們威脅要發動陳情，讓州民公投廢除法案。這個團體過去十年曾發動過三次類似的公投廢法行動，每一次都無它茠臐C

美國新英格蘭其它五州，全都已立法通過保障LGBT同志民權的法案。
