The Aces play a strong second half and defeat Marshall by a 91-81 score. Junior Matt Webster should get a concussion before every game. Having sustained one six days earlier, in the second preseason game, Webster comes off the bench and goes for 24 pts. and 10 rebounds. Included in that was a stellar 14-14 from the line. Freshman Jason Holsinger, in his first real college game action, scored 19 points and chipped in with 5 rebounds. The 5'11" guard showed no fear and already seems to be the team leader when he is on the floor. Junior center Bradley Strickland played well. He had 13 points and 6 rebounds before sustaining a slight leg injury and missing the last eight minutes of the game. Other newcomers that gave wonderful production in their minutes were Sophomore JC transfer Victor Gomez and Junior JC transfer Maurice Blakey. The 6'6" Gomez was very active while on the floor. He contributed 9 points including 2-3 from three land. Blakey played both guard positions and added 8 points, while providing the crowd with the move of the night. He split two defenders, made a combination hesitation/behind the back dribble, and ended up with an easy lay in. The Aces were 32-40 from the line and outrebounded Marshall 44-31. Both areas were weaknesses last year and it is nice to see that kind of production in those areas. The Aces head to Chicago on Monday 11/21 to face a solid Loyola (Chi) team led by 6'7" Junior do-everything guard Blake Schlib. The Aces will have to play a wonderful game to pick up the road win.
