>You know, as a fan, it's sad to me to see Dan selling off his guitars. It kind of seems like he's parting with his "children", so to speak. Hopefully, the people who have bought them will treasure them and find great satisfaction in making their own kind of music on them.

He's made such beautiful, and memorable, music on those guitars. And music has been such an elemental part of him. Has his illness estranged him from making music, I wonder? I would think he'd derive - and need - a certain amount of comfort from making music as he made his way through this dark period.

I truly hope he hasn't given it up completely; even if he never records or performs ever again (and I truly hope he DOES return to these pursuits), I hope that Dan can find escape in writing and playing for himself.

On a similar note, it was also dismaying to see Mountain Bird Ranch up for sale. He's always seemed so inextricably linked with Colorado and his dearly-loved mountains. But a life-changing event such as he's faced the past couple of years can make a person re-examine who he is, how he lives, and how he will approach the future.

For the fans, it's a bit like the end of an era.
