For me I think it's a logical progression for Dan. As a fan I'm not happy about his early retirement, but as a fan I also want what's best for him. So if he's happy and healthy I'm happy for him. One could say that Mountain Bird has become an albatrose around his neck. Just the overhead of running a ranch that size has got to be very expensive. It's been pretty well documented, by Dan himself as well as others, that he hates to tour, add that to the fact that he pretty much stopped writing songs after River Of Souls, and I could see him leaving the business for good. Especially if he was touring just to make enough money to keep up his old lifestyle when he was selling millions of records and selling out big arenas. I can't imagine doing something you love for so long and then having it turn into a job. If Dan was touring just to meet his overhead, that's one thing - then throw cancer on top of that and I'm sure he did some deep soul searching. Oh well, nothing lasts forever - but I'll be listening to all of Dan's records for the rest of my life. Hoping that, if the planets line up, and he can recover financially, that he'll make new music again.
