This is what I've collected from the web so far.

Some braided non-dissolvable suture such as BBS (Black Braided Silk) 3/0 or 2/0 with attached needle might be used. A long straight ("hand") needle is preferable if you are not using needle holders. EmlaŽ (local anaesthetic) would make the process painless - you apply it and pull the foreskin forward to cover it for 20 minutes to make it effective (it must not dry out during this time), and you use BetadineŽ solution (antiseptic) immediately before the suture but give it time to dry (or a hairdryer).
