Question for IPS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello All!
I am really excited as time is now winding down for us. Our little girl will be here before we know it.
My question: Do you have to to do the stepparent adoption in the state of the delivery or can you bring the child back to your homestate to do the stepparent adoption? My husband is the bio father and I am the one who will need to do the stepparent adoption.
Next, did you use an attorney to terminate your surros rights or did you use an agency? Once the rights were terminated and my DH is on the birth certificate, we can then leave with the baby and proceed with the process in our homestate, right?
I have tried speaking with attorneys on this but they are so gunho about us doing the stepparent adoption in the delivery state (IL). We would rather have the delivery there for the convience of the surro but we want to finish the legal stuff once we relocate. My husband is active duty and we will be moving right after the delivery, give or take a few weeks. We don't want to have a homestudy or anything like that because this is our kid and we don't feel this is necessary. That is why we would prefer to continue with this on our own after her rights are terminated.
Have any of you had any experience doing this? or does the stepparent adoption always happen in the delivery state????
Any input would be appreciated.
