Subject: Oscar week movies! Did you catch up on any nominees? I got two!

I continued my subtitled international film tour with It Was Just an Accident (France) and The Secret Agent (Brazil).
It Was Just an Accident was in Persian and takes place in Iran. The thriller was written and directed by Jafar Panahi. The film is a co-production among Iran, France, and Luxembourg. The film follows a group of former Iranian political prisoners who face the question of whether to exact revenge on a man they believe may be their tormentor. Panahi, who is critical of the Iranian government and has been imprisoned several times, made the film without official filming permission from the Iranian authorities.
I watched it after seeing the writer/director interviewed by Jon Stewart. It was great!

The Secret Agent was in Portuguese. I actually understood some of it without the subtitles thanks to my Duolingo lessons before we went to Portugal LOL! It is nominated as best picture and best international film and best actor for Wagner Moura. It follows Armando (Wagner Moura), a former professor caught in the political turmoil in the midst of the Brazilian military dictatorship, attempting to flee persecution and resist an authoritarian regime.

with Russel Crow as Hermann Goering and Rami Malik as a psychiatrist who interviews him during the trials. Really good, riveting footage and dialog.
