I've quoted a post by DanFan Tom Yorke on Yahoo Groups' "danfogelberg" that some of you may not have seen. I got a knot in my chest & tears in my eyes when I read about the lyrics that have become a name. While it's a lot of things, at the very least it's very, very cool.

I hope things like this keep happening ~ that bits & pieces of all things relevant keep surfacing. Dan had been so much to so many for so long and now here he is again. That's an amazing spirit.

"This Saturday, May 2 will be the 135th running of The Kentucky Derby. A horse named Join in the Dance will be one of the twenty entries in the race that has become known as The Run for the Roses. The significance of this is item is that in 1980, ABC commissioned Dan Fogelberg to write a song for their telecast of that year's Derby. Dan came up with the song "Run for the Roses" which has lived on in the hearts of Kentucky Derby fans ever since. This song, about a young horse growing up to someday run in this big race, closes with its chorus of "Its high time you joined in the dance." I believe that the naming of this horse and the entering of him in the Derby is an honorable tribute to a song and a writer whose lyrics have touched many a soul. Keep in mind that this horse should go off in the neighborhood of 99-1 and will most likely finish closer to last than to first. However, somewhere Dan will be cheering him on, pleading with him to "Run for the Roses as fast as you can. Your fate is delivered, your moment's at hand. Its the chance of a lifetime in a lifetime of chance. And its high time you Join in the Dance." He'll have my $2."

What a wonderful honor--for both Dan and the horse. I don't gamble, but I'll throw my spiritual $2 (heck, if it's spiritual, how about $2M?) in for this horse.

To some it may seem miraculous, but for Dan fans, it's just another experience in a day in the life of a Dan fan. This is a beautiful story, and I would be happy to throw a handful of money on join in the dance. Win, place or show, it's still an amazing story and one that would have touched Dan's heart in such a big way. Western Kentucky, Peoria, and the rest of the world have become one today, and are now the center of the equine universe.

I was so excited at the beginning thinking that Join in the Dance was actually going to win the race. At least it was a longshot that made it; I always root for the underdogs!

It was a fine race. Join the dance did well. I have never seen a jockey with so much personality! I loved it! Happy Day!

He did well, didn't he, holding the lead right out of the gate especially on such a sloppy track; his rep is always a good start. I could almost envision Dan whispering in his ear.

I have to hand it to that little horse who, also at 50:1 odds, held that rail with amazing concentration. He responded to some amazing maneuvers to get there and then came in all those lengths ahead to create the 2nd largest upset in KD history. Nobody can convince me that there isn't some psychic bond between a "rider" who knows his stuff and the "ridee."

And then there were the hats ~ LOVE them; the bigger the brim, the better.

I loved the picture you put in my head of Dan whispering in Join in the Dance's head.. Maybe he was riding behind the jockey and hanging on for dear life with a hugh smile on his face. I wish there were interviews hidden in his closet that Jean could release..I would love to see something new out there. Somedays I just miss my Dan so much..even now.

Hey Gary. Yeah, you're not alone. I miss him too.....the mysteries, the wonder, the discovery, the anticipation, the excitement, new interviews, new music, live music, all the possibilities....I miss it all very much.
