And here's a video from Tom Hampton, playing a really nice rendition of The Reach. The visual is small, but has great sound.

I am so sad not to have gone to this. But I love the lyrics chosen to represent his life's work. One from his early career, one from mid-career, and one from later career, all beautiful and poignant. And using the lyrics to "Ever On" to line the pathway to the memorial is wonderful! I look forward to one day visiting.

I've been pretty bummed about missing it too, Mary. I keep trying to convince myself that it's alright, I'll get over it. I'm trying to accept that it just wasn't meant to be...there's a reason for everything, etc. But I can't help feeling like I blew it...and missed the chance of a lifetime.

Still, I'm thrilled that it turned out to be such an amazing and wonderful celebration of Dan's life. From what I've seen and heard, the weekend far exceeded expectations. And that is awesome.

And I so agree with you about the lyrics. They couldn't be more perfect. The river setting is beautiful, and I hope to get there someday too. I gotta hand it to the Peoria folks....they did an incredible job of honoring Dan.

Looks like The Coachmen had a good time in their own way.

Jon's video description:

The Coachmen a 60's band from Peoria Illinois reunites August 28th, 2010 in a tribute to their friend and bandmate, the late Dan Fogelberg. Thanks to Jeffery Nelson and 747 Productions, Peoria Illinois.

RE: "Peoria Folks"

For the first two years, two people worked to make a DF memorial come to life...one had the know-how, contacts, and did most of the "heavy lifting." The other had a dream, a vision, of how to honor Dan. Once there was approval from the City Council for the use of an area at Riverfront Park, the Living Legacy joined to help with fundraising and man, did the fans respond! Last autumn, another local gentleman offered his help with fund-raising and doing what he could do, to further the cause.

All three of these also did double-duty in several areas. Once again, Hugh pulled out a stellar cast of musicians for the tribute concert and spent hours on the project; Dianne displayed her Fogelbilia at the post-concert party, and Eric created the trolley tours for Dan sites, did some PR, took some photos. Dianne donated a park bench with an awesome (!) plaque on Grandview Drive, where a young Dan was inspired to dream his dreams.

Jean, Deb, and Laurie threw a wonderful DanFan party with musicians from all over the country taking part thru-out Friday evening. Jean was so gracious to warmly greet many many people and smile thru dozens of photos. It was truly enjoyable with over 400 #1 DanFans singing, hugging, smiling, while remembering our minstrel.

The memorial dedication was a beautiful ceremony on a beautiful day with a beautiful blue sky above us as we celebrated a beautiful man. There were some tears, some laughs, some reflections, and a beautiful blessing. Dan's spirit surrounded all of us as we honored his memory.

As stated above, the tribute concert musicians pulled out all the stops and did Dan proud, with their wonderful covers of his songs. They sang from their hearts, gave it their all and presented a lovely program. Kudos to Hugh for his tireless effort on Dan's behalf.

Let it Shine!!!!!!

Diney,

The bench was a great idea. I've seen pictures. It's a beautiful spot along the river, and I love the plaque. I hope someday to get the opportunity to sit there, maybe play my guitar and sing to his spirit...(as long as no one else is within earshot :)

Thanks for sharing your experience. It must be incredibly wonderful and amazing for you, Eric, and Hugh to finally see the dream become reality, and in the process, make a lot of other folks' dreams come true.

I think one of the most touching things about it all is that Dan's mom could be there to participate and to feel the deep love and respect so many folks have for her son. In the pictures, it looks like she was enjoying it. I hope so, and I hope it was meaningful to her.

Once again, congratulations to all for making it happen for Dan.
