Thanks for the kindness of your reply and for reading the lyrics. I do have a recorded version I send out to potential publishers...I have no voice, my left hand has been broken in 6 places on my middle, ring, and pinky between the knuckles and wrist, so its not as pretty as the song can be. Actually I hear a woman singing the song instead of a guy. My wife thinks so as well. I do two versions of the song, one with what I felt needed to sound hollow and wrong (as I feel all attempts at Fogelberg songs are for me personally), yet I added it on a 6 string instead of a 12, and it isn't exactly entered in my best walk up to it in the recording, but I do things once and am pretty much finished messing with it lol. I would share the version only with a heartfelt promise that its has to be pretty much something those that get it keep to themselves. I'm not about the making something off the song,(sadly publishers on the other hand are) its about them being willing to publish something that's out there on the internet I don't want to squander the interest generated around the song. I have companies interested in it, some want to move real quick on it, I'm not about the quick, for me its more about it being something I can hang my hat on and say, yeah, I wrote that about my favorite artist of all time, and people felt it was sincere.

As a hardcore DanFan, I am always interested in what others have to say about my favorite singer/musician/songwriter. I would love to hear your song honoring Dan whenever it is available. Will you be posting on youtube? Sadly I will be unable to make the trip to Peoria next week. Will look forward to hearing your song in the future.

Thanks for the response, and here's where I am with getting it all set up. I played the song and sent it in, and everyone wants to pitch it to the project currently happening. I DO NOT want that happening, so I've been holding off until the tribute CD is finished and out for consumers. My writing the song was a total spur of the moment deal. I didn't do it for profit, or for any other reason than to finally explain what I heard, felt, and read after Dan passed. So, right after the CD is released, I'll give the go ahead to start pitching the song (which I hope has strength enough to stand on its own for anyone suffering loss, a reason to say, woah, been there. After all, I didn't sit down and just write the song after I heard the news...heck it took me 8 months before I even picked up my guitar after Dan died.
Like you, Dan is a favorite of mine and has been since I was in high school in the early to mid 70's. I wish I could say I put a ton of time in it, but that's just not the case...it was quite quick and painless to write, but very straight up about that day and what we as fans relayed to his loved ones on the web site memorials. Thanks again for your response, and I will set up a way to hear it once its been recorded.
