Subject: They have their exits...

S’peer flinched as Maria made her attempt to speak, seeing her eyes become unfocused as she conversed with Myth. What was she saying to him, he wondered. Was he telling her to leave S’peer? Probably. Now that the blue knew about S’peer’s crime, he wouldn’t want his rider anywhere near him. But how was she replying? Was she seeking ways to leave his weyr? Was she agreeing with Myth? It was what S’peer fully expected of her. And he wouldn’t have held it against her if she had gone. When you’ve been hating yourself for so long, you forget that some people might not see it the same way.

Maybe it was fear that made him do it. The knowledge that, if she left – if he had nobody there – he would be lost. Self harm, alcoholism…it was a past that S’peer could go back into very easily. If Maria left now, he would seek out something to drink and drown in it. Halzay, Sally…it was all getting on top of him. And the only thing S’peer couldn’t cope with was guilt. It made him crumble.

The bluerider reached out and laid a hand on Maria’s arm, lightly enough that she could push him away if she wanted to, but firm enough to be pleading. His eyes were pleading, too – his hair messed up by his nervous habit – and his voice was hoarse with unshed tears and emotion.

“Don’t go.”

((Do I sense trouble in paradise? And it’ll have to be Maria, since he’s not going to make that kind of move towards her. He’s too worried about upsetting her.))
