The Rider Weyrs
These weyrs, used by those dragons and riders who have completed weryling training, are carved high into the cliffs surrounding the inactive volcano of New Isle. They are accessible adragonback and also through a series of stairs and walkways that wind their way up the cliff and around it. Each rider has a weyr with a bed, a dresser and a dragon couch that is the appropriate size for their lifemate. Riders can bedeck their own personal weyr however they want, and fortunately each is equipped with its own bathroom. There are plenty of empty weyrs so everyone gets their own, and the view overlooking the island and ocean is stunning.

X'thrall leaned back on Golgith's bed, one leg propped up against it. He was shirtless, and eating a redfruit.
Gol, where's G'rein?
No clue. I think that Grenith is asleep.
Though young, beneath that broad chest lay a heart that burst with love. He just wished he didn't feel so guilty about...Elaini. How could he have betrayed G'rein like that?
Because he doesn't quench your desires...
Of course he did! Where did that come from? If they were truly meant to be together, wouldn't he be completely dedicated to his weyrmate? Why did he feel restless?
He loved G'rein, with as much passion as his bdy could hold.
passion...lust...love
When he was with G'rein, he felt so different. So fufilled. So...completed. Yes, that was the term. The sexy green rider completed him, in more ways than one...

Maria, are you going to be okay?
I- I don't know, Myth. I feel- dirty. Almost like when I was still with K'mir.
Myth was so scared for his Maria that he didn't even say 'I told you so'. The blue had gotten involved in another green flight. Subjected his precious Maria to the overpowering lust of a flight, before she was ready. Forced her to go through his pain when he didn't win the green. Compelled her to bare her soul, almost, in his spilled desire to capture the green's heart.

~~I told you that humans were treacherous~~

Maria and Myth were both on Myth's couch, curled up. Maria was between his forelegs, resting her back against his chest. His massive blue head, on its sinuous pillar of neck, was curled around to rest on his paws. She was crying, much like she had the last time Myth had gotten into a flight, and not won. But this time, there would be no pesky bronzeriders intervening. Myth would be sure of that.

~~I knew humans would tear my heart open~~

Next time that happens, will you stop me? Myth's mental voice, a masculine version of Maria's own, was very small. He was ashamed to have dragged Maria into another such involving flight.
I'll try, my beloved. Myth, I will try. But you didn't listen this time, baby. Maria's voice, on the other hand, was tearful, and very thick. She had to choke out her thoughts, which meant that she wouldn't be able to talk.

~~They spitted me, and carved me.~~

Unfortunately, this was an altogether too familiar occurence. The icy rage, the burning hatred, the hot surge of anger. She knew them all intimately, as well as the shame of embarassment. The fear of men. The ultimate trust in her Myth, her legend. The tears of pain.

~~The emotions of the fallen~~

Can you wever forgive me, my Maria?
Of course, Myth. I'm just not ready to go back to the rest of the weyr yet.
'I may never be.' The unspoken phrase hung between them like a rope. He longed to cut that rope, the rope that would stand between them for a very long time.

Somehow, they'd made it inside and to a bed before embarrassing themselves in front of the whole Weyr (not that R'ven's perch hadn't been a bit secluded, but it's the principle of the thing. Besides, beds are softer than boulders). Now, a few hours later, R'ven rouses from the light drowse he'd fallen into, wrapped around S'peer on a cot that is most certainly not his own. Neither is the weyr, it being on the ground level, but fortunately it's devoid of any signs of occupation, so it seems they haven't accidentally borrowed someone else's home. Sitting up, R'ven takes a moment for self-assessment. His hair has stayed braided this time, thankfully - sleeping with loose hair, especially with company, can turn into an excrutiatingly painful experience without warning - but the bandage M'telle had wrapped around his shoulder earlier is beyond repair. Not that it's a big problem, since the tiny claw-marks hadn't really required bandaging in the first place, so the greenrider goes ahead and strips it off, discarding it on the floor for now. Glancing through the doorway to the outer room, he can see Massath in there, her tail twined with a blue one but her body and the the wall cooperating to obscure the rest of Scarth's bulk from him. His green, at least, is asleep. Assured of his dragon's contentment, the quiet hum of satiation running between them even when she's sunk in slumber, he smiles fondly.

Something chirps at him, and he looks up. Clinging to the craggy wall above the door, three firelizards dangle in a row from precarious claw-holds, blinking at him and cheeping in greeting before turning their eyes on S'peer. /Don't you dare move,/ he orders, seeing gold Athena spread her wings and bunch her muscles in anticipation of pushing off. /Leave him alone. Why do you always harass them?/ Three protestations of innocent curiousity ring in his mind, and he shakes his head in exasperation. /It's rude. Go away, and don't come back until I tell you to, understand?/ Bronze Vey squawks a complaint, and little green Kree echoes it, but R'ven is in luck; Athena might have pushed the issue otherwise, but she enjoys bossing them around too much to encourage disobedience now. Chittering angrily, she watches them both go between before giving R'ven a final smug chirp and vanishing herself.

Sighing silently, R'ven turns back to S'peer with an apologetic expression on his face, ready to indicate his apologies if his pets have disturbed the bluerider. He's not sure whether the man was awake or asleep, or whether they might have woken him if it was the latter.

((Trying not to actually powerplay, but I hope you don't mind that I "placed" S'peer and Scarth. I just figured they'd all four be a bit tired after the flight.))

D'ctor rushes into the weyrs, a flush in his face and breath coming deep. This is most unusual for him. But what's even more bizarre is the fact that his immaculate black coat and cape are both RUFFLED!

/Whoth,/ intones the rider. /alert Chuth, Fordth, and Augusath that we are going to be leaving as soon as humanly (and dragonly) possible./

Whoth rumbles wordlessly, assent flooding into the older man's mind. He leans his head back, tuning into the worldwide whispering of dragons, finding the other two bronzes and green. Whoth ponders in his usual lazy fashion if the young female will be able to keep up with the larger males. Once he finds them, he relays the message. /D'ctor says to be ready at any moment. We're going to leave as soon as we get things straight, probably in a few days./ The dragon's mental voice seems highly amused.

D'ctor, on the other hand, is bustling madly around his room. From somewhere he has procured a braced knapsack and a sleeping bundle, as well as a stack of hides and some ink (or a scalpel, depending on what's used to mark the hides.. I don't really know). Whoth's great, liverbronze wings flare and his lanky body alights from the heights to reach the personal weyr he shares with his rider. Eyes glitter with amusement, a faintly indigo-tinged bluegreen. He can do little to help, so he doesn't get settled in. Again, he broadcasts to Augusath, Chuth, and Fordth. /Make sure YOU are ready, as well. Have your riders oil your hides, and gorge and sleep now so we will be content in a few days. The same goes for any firelizards your riders are bringing./ He takes a moment to tell D'ctor he's hunting - doesn't get much of a reply, though. The dragon's huge wings sail through the air as he downsweeps, circling lazily over the green hues of the Bowl.

D'ctor continues his frenzy of gathering items, making a list on a scrap of hide of the things he still needs.

~~I hate the people in it~~

Elaini was now walking, head low, through the barracks, hoping to find some empty weyr to sleep in, as she had countless nights before. She straitened the baby-carriers on both her chest and back, the front of which held her precious baby girl, the back her beloved baby boy. Her twins were everything to her now, and she hated that they couldn�t live comfortably. After three months of fleeing from the sight of her weyrmate, W�ntyr of bronze Garneth, she knew she could not go back to the weyr they had so long ago shared. Her delicate, tanned hand went from adjusting the girl�s straps to her stomach, and she had to hold back tears. Looking down again, her eyes defied her, and tears fell onto the slightly swollen stomach. She was now three months pregnant, and she hadn�t told anyone.

The large dragon that had so long ago been a shining, dusky emerald was now a harsh grey-green, and followed her rider with the same somber stance as her �Laini. Oh, how Rishanath would love to be under the protective wing of her bronze love... And how much she�d give to see her Elaini in the arms of the one she loved! But, it was impossible now. For when one betrayal leads to another, it is improbable that they�d ever be together... ever.

~~I hate the choices we make~~

Elaini held her tears in once more as she remembered that fateful day. One day had changed her life. The day Shrineth rose.

Now, she knew she could not blame the golden beauty, but oh, how she wished to have someone to blame! That was when her W�ntyr, the love of her life, had left her, trying to coax the gold into his affection. Well, it was sharding good that the gold had seen through that lying sneak! She pushed back the thoughts of his innocence immediately. She knew it was wrong, what he�d done. It was just that simple.

Something else bothered her, too, though. The betrayal she�d committed afterwards. Some may say that it was only natural to want someone who�d once been close nearby, and even that it could�ve been in dragon emotion that she�d done it, but she knew she was guilty. She�d done wrong. But she couldn�t re-do it now. She was pregnant, and she was scorching sure that it wasn�t W�ntyr�s child.

~~I hate the way I can�t control life~~

Elaini was almost positive that the child was X�thrall�s. Sure, there was a small chance that it was indeed W�ntyr�s, and she�d been pregnant through the flight, but she doubted it. It was an illegitimate child. It was conceived away from true love, away from even flight-lust. And that she couldn�t bear to live with, knowing she had inflicted such a fate on one so innocent.

Of course, Elaini had thought many times on simply taking a short drop between, but she couldn�t do that. Elaini, kill another living person on purpose? Not likely to ever happen.

~~But most of all, I hate myself~~

Elaini sighed as she found another empty weyr near the back. A little big, probably for a blue, but it would do for tonight. She watched as Rishanath settled less-than-comfortably on the couch, and walked over to the bed, sitting down. She took Wylan out from his baby-carrier in the back, and Elatyr from hers in the front. Both children were the dearest things in her life now, and she felt horrible for condemning them to a fatherless life.

Perhaps, when they were older, she�d ask them if they wanted to live with Daddy. She winced as she thought the word; what she wouldn�t give to have taken W�ntyr out of the area at the moment of the flight, to lead him away! She knew he didn�t mean it... but she couldn�t ask for forgiveness now. Sighing, she made two little cots from the blankets, and set the children in them comfortably. Then, she turned, and settled on the now blanket-less bed. It was nowhere near as comfortable as the bed she�d shared with W�ntyr... but he�d never want her back now, not after all she�d done to him...

Perhaps one day she�d tell him she was sorry. But, maybe it would be better to leave him alone. He had his own life... probably without her by now.

Home sweet... what the...? -- Liraz~Gaiath and flits, 18:11:55 06/27/05 Mon [1]
Anyone who happened to look out from their weyr over the ocean view at this juncture would see a streamlined green object headed their way like a winged meteor. Before she hits the cliff face, Gaiath catches an updraft and soars toward the place she had called home before she was presumed lost, slowing to a halt and landing on the ledge as lightly as you please, all resemblance to a meteor forgotten. Not even bothering to demand that her harness be removed once her rider has , she lies down upon the familiar dragon couch, remembering with a chuckle how many times they'd had to resize it to accomodate her growing wingspan.
After dismounting, Liraz does a cursory inspection and finds that all the belongings that she had left behind are still intact (though her stash of salted fish needs to be thrown out and replenished after the little box has been given a thorough scrubbing) and that her flits have already found their favored spots, Ariella snoozing while perched precariously atop the sword-stand and Yafah curled up on top of the dresser where she had stuffed her everyday clothes without bothering to fold anything. Sleeves of tunics and ends of scarves hung out of the barely closed drawers... And speaking of clothes...
"Shells, what is that thing?!" Liraz recoils from the stark reality of the image her flits had sent before.
It appears to be a formal dress of some sort.
"Whose is it?!"
Gaiath chooses her words carefully this time. Liraz usually only spoke aloud to the dragon when she was really taken aback. Well, seeing as N'van isn't... here, I can tell you he had it made as a surprise for your birthday, mostly for a joke I think. I guess you never made it back to your weyrs that day. But this is yours. And I'd suggest you wear it to the feast. It matches me so well.
She wasn't lying. The gown, though plainly designed had been dyed masterfully, the strapless top a brilliant and pale peridot color, fading into darker and darker greens until it reaches the same dark aquamarine shade that graces the tip of Gaiath's tail.
It might match you, but nobodys going to have any idea who I am if I show up in a dress. I'm going to wear what I always wear.
Like shell you are, missy! We are going to make an entrance. And you are going to wash before you do anything else. The aforementioned tail is quickly extended and blocks Liraz's path to the crammed bureau. It then prods the rider, who is by now becoming quite flustered, toward the bath, where she rinses the sand and salt out of her hair and the stink off the rest of her. Giving her unruly black curls the once over with a comb and turning around, she meets up with her lifemate's tail again.
Put it up.
What?
You heard me.
An aggravated sigh escapes her as she stuffs her mass of hair into the only hair ornament she deigns to own, a large ring of silver, and turns it into a ponytail, pulling it away from her face. You know I can't do the beauty thing.
Put the gown on now.
Yes, O Gaiath of the Magnificent Wings.
A tone of devilish amusement from the dragon is unmistakable. Hmm, I like it. You can call me that from now on.
The young woman, now truly irritated, slips into the gown. It is looser than it was originally intended to be, but still passable.
And now you see just how thin you've become. You're ready enough. Let's get you a proper meal.
Liraz snorts and tries to muster a witty retort, but her inspiration has left her for the moment and she just sticks to expressing her annoyance nonverbally as Gaiath allows her to mount and takes off into the cooling evening.

((Please excuse the minor power-playing, Sahira. Also, I'm going to assume that Wessae did bandage up her head as Marja asked, just because it makes everything easier.))

Landing carefully on the ledge in front of the Weyrwoman's weyr - Sengaloth doesn't want to leave claw-marks in Shrineth's ledge, oh no - the blue dragon steps just far enough inside for his passengers to dismount. Once D'rai has bundled Sahira off his back and helped Marja down, Sengaloth dips his head politely to the Weyrwoman and backs out, soaring away from the ledge. He'll wait on the heights, so he won't be in Shrineth's way when she comes back for Wessae.

"She just needs some stitching and a few bandages," Marja assures the Weyrwoman's vanishing back, then turns to D'rai. "We'll borrow her bed." D'rai blinks at her, and she gives him an impatient look. "She said we could use her weyr, and we can change the sheets afterwards if we get them messy. We'll borrow her bed."

"Yes, Healer," D'rai sighs, getting the distinct feeling that she won't appreciate an argument. "Here, let's get you to the bed, miss." Keeping one hand on the temporary bandage wrapped around the girl's arm, he helps her over to the bed. Once she's there, he rushes back for the bucket, which Sengaloth had had the forethought to carry here in his foreclaws. He didn't even spill very much, D'rai notes in private appreciation of his dragon as he carries the bucket over to the Healer and her patient. /Good job, Sengaloth!/

It wasn't a problem, the blue replies, though he sounds pleased at the compliment.

Seating herself in a good position to stitch the arm, Marja once again digs the packet of sterile needle and thread out of her bag. Before she actually starts, though, she looks up at Sahira. "I'll ask you again," she says patiently, assuming that it was wooziness or confusion that forestalled the first answer. "Do you want fellis before I do this, or not? It's going to hurt without it, and the Hatching's over so I don't see much point in not taking some, but I don't want to dose you without asking first."

"Thank you, Lady," A'lan remarks as the green flit cheerfully hands him a hairbrush. Standing before a mirror, A'lan combs his dark red hair into a tameable shape, frowning and styling it a little. "I had the whole hatching to say something, I wonder if it's wearing off?"

Lady tilts her head comically at the human's cryptic mumblings, but A'lan continues to comb and fret. Hroth, napping on the ledge after a recent oiling to look his best, senses A'lan's distress. What's the matter with you? You've been distracted for days now.

Nothing, Hroth. Nothing is wrong. I'm just...well... He trails off, letting his dragon feel the direction his thoughts are going. The brown nods, A'lan can sense him nodding for the dragon is some distance away, and A'lan musters a grin. He'd do it, he'd do it before he got worried. He was almost glad he'd saved it for this long, because in the glorious post-flight haze, things could be regretted. But not now, oh no. "A'dian?" He calls, knowing the greenrider was about somewhere getting ready, but not sure just where.

Getting Ready -- Wessae~Shrineth, 19:47:06 06/16/05 Thu [1]
((OOC: Just for LG and Pup's reference, Wessae's arriving here after Marja and co. have already been here a few hours, so you guys can start another thread, this is just for getting pretty.))

Wessae scrambles from Shrineth's back and hurries into her weyr in a flurry of activity. She nods and inquires after Sahira, barely stopping to get a prognosis before rushing into her bathroom and flinging her filthy, sand encrusted clothes everywhere. The bath can't be ready soon enough, and she slips into it with a sigh that can probably be heard out on the open ocean. She doesn't have much time to relax, however for she's got to be punctual to the feast. As she scrubs her pile of hair into submissive cleanliness, she tries to go over the list of the lucky new weyrlings. Shrineth, snoozing as she waits, is no help.

Leaping from her bath into a towel, the Weyrwoman eyes the gown Gisella had sent over with some admiration. She had requested that the Headwoman assist her in picking something out for she hadn't the time to do it herself. She'd have to thank Gisella a thousand times for this gown, it was perfect. Slipping into it behind a changing screen she was thankful for now that there was company, she wriggles and smooths it. Her dark brown, impossibly curly hair hangs stubbornly at her waist, refusing the futile efforts she makes to tame it down.

Finding an appropriate, pretty headdress that requires no pulling back of the hair whatsoever, she affixes it onto her head and takes one last look. Smiling in appreciation, she heads out to her waiting dragon. Turning to address the gathering in her weyr, she gives them a slight smile. "If you'd like, I can have someone send you up food from the feast. It's always so excellent, and I'm sure it'd be appreciated. I will leave Buck here, and there are writing utensils on the desk, there." The brown flit, who had been busy inspecting said writing utensils, chirrs happily at mention of his name. "Send him whenever you're ready. Or if you need supplies. Someone will come. If you'll forgive me, I'm already late as is." With a final nod and smile, the Weyrwoman turns and runs to her dragon. In another heartbeat, they're away to the lower caverns, Shrineth preceding their wake with a merry call.

H'ndre hoisted his pack over his left shoulder, and shouldered his mom's pack.
"Thanks, Dre."
His mom looked tired, moreso than usual.

((Gah, short, but I had to post before going to Horse camp. I hope I get to ride Goldie again. She's my favourite. But I guess Nera's okay too. He's just a bit old, you know? Not as much spunk as Pup's Jawitska, though he's younger.))

Scarth watched from his couch as his rider paced like an angry feline around the confines of his weyr, his face dark with barely-controlled fury. The bluerider sat down on the bed at last, running his hands through his hair and lying back on the soft mattress.

�Why not? Give me one good reason!�

Scarth closed his eyes. Because Halzay is still scared of you. And seeing you get angry with her relations will not help! Maria will also not benefit from this. Did you think of that?

�No.� S�peer sighed, so mixed up with what he was feeling that Scarth was supremely glad that no alcoholic drinks were in the man�s reach. His rider must have picked up on this because he sat up, smiling ruefully at his dragon. �I�m sorry, Scarth. I don�t mean to be like this�and I don�t mean to scare you.�

I know. But you scared Halzay, and you have made more than one enemy, I would not be surprised to learn. Please, S�peer, be calm.

�I�m trying. I really am.� The bluerider took several deep breaths, as if that could help him get a grip on his feelings. �I just�I wish I could go back and change things. But then Salzay wouldn�t be here. Why won�t anyone admit that I�d never do that again?�

Probably because they don�t want to. When you have hated and feared someone for four years, it is hard to undo those feelings.

�I�m not asking anyone to undo them! What I did to Halzay�it was evil. More than evil. All I would like is for her � and others � to see that I�m sorry, and that I wouldn�t do it again.� S�peer gave a long sigh, flopping back again and closing his eyes.

Scowling, Akema climbs out of the bath and wanders into her bedroom, water dripping from her hair to soak into the towel wrapped around her waist. Untying it and vigorously rubbing herself dry, Akema mutters darkly to herself under her breath. "Idiot!" She pauses a moment to rest her hand on her belly, a look of disgust crossing her face, then drops the towel and reaches for her clothing. Skinning into clean clothes, she begins savagely brushing her shoulder-length hair, yanking at the knots as if they're a personal affront to her.

Peering through the doorway from her weyr to her rider's room, Laffranth watches this furious activity with concern. This isn't like Akema. For that matter, Akema's been out of sorts for a while now - she's gained weight, she's alternately wildly euphoric and darkly miserable, she's always hungry, and sometimes she's ill in the mornings. She's hiding something from her dragon now, too, and the green doesn't like being kept so determinedly in the dark. Akema, tell me what's wrong, she asks for the third time today, this time phrasing it as a demand rather than a question. She's rather irritated herself by now.

This time, it seems, Akema is ready to answer. "I'm sharding pregnant!" she spits out, fury written across her strong-featured face and flashing in her sea-green eyes. "We haven't been going between as much recently because we haven't had much distance to cover, I didn't stop to think about all the men I've been sharing weyrs with because I'm a sharding idiot, and one of them took and now I'm pregnant!" She's breathing heavily as she finishes up her short rant, arms crossed in front of her chest and feet planted far apart in an aggressive posture.

Are you sure? Massath asks tenatively, taken aback.

"Positive," Akema grumbles. "Everything fits, and I've missed my monthly twice now." Massath projects blank confusion. "Proddy?" she snaps impatiently, using her dragon's simplistic term. "Once a month? Remember?"

Now Massath understands. Yes, she says quietly, almost meekly, not wanting to aggravate her human anymore.

Akema stares up at her for a long moment, then sighs and reaches out to rest a hand on the green's pine-colored neck. "I'm not mad at you, Laffranth. I just- I don't want this. But it's too late to between the thing." She rests her head against Laffranth's shoulder for a moment, then pulls away and starts briskly towards the interior exit. "I need klah. I'll bathe and oil you after you've eaten - and you do need to eat."

In the hallway, S'kar is strolling down a set of stairs, heading for the Hatching Sands, when he runs across a familiar face. "Akema!" he greets cheerfully, waving at her. "How are you today? And Massath?"

To his complete surprise, Akema spins on him, her eyes narrowed and her expression dark. "If this is your fault, you will pay," she snarls, jabbing a finger at his chest, then stalks angrily off.

S'kar stares after her in puzzled hurt. "What did I do?" he plainatively asks the empty hall.

D'ctor nods slowly. 'Yes, I think I remember your Impression, actually. Fordth came from the clutch Kylith left behind on the sands, right?' He presses his fingertips together, and turns to face the large window on his wall. A frown passes over his flexible features.

'The winds.. they were from a storm. Whoth and I didn't encoutner them steadily. I doubt they'll be a problem. And remember, I hit my head and couldn't remember what the Weyr looked like. But, come,' he adds when Whoth whispers something excitedly to him, and launches from his weyr down to the bowl. The rider's arm extends and beckons them to come closer. 'Look down to the sands and tell me what you see.' Candidates gathering, that's what! 'I expect to see you, if not on the sands watching then in the lower caverns afterwards. We must find T'gan eventually, too.'

D'ctor smiles and scoops the sleeping brown into his velveteen arms, cradling the firelizard to a protective chest. He sees both youths out, before making his lonely path down to the caverns.
