Subject: Rees family

I am descended from a certain James Rees, born in "Sirhowy" in 2nd half of 1852 or first half of 1853. His father's name was the same, James Rees. James the son went to live in Birmingham, and was married there in 1877. I am very keen to uncover information about this branch of the Rees family, but have very little to go on. All I know is from the 1901 census of England in which James the son was living in Birmingham and gave his place of birth as "Sirhowy". I have found his birth date as nearly as I can as above. If anyone recognises any of this or has any ideas how I can pursue my quest I would be pleased to hear from them by email.
I plan to visit the area in the Spring to follow up any leads.
Thanks in hopeful anticipation
Phil Richards

The 1871 census has James Rees (aged 18), born in Sirhowy, living with father James Rees (aged 59), born Llangynar, Carmarthenshire, mother Mary (aged 55), born Llangatog, Breconshire, in Manmoel, with sisters rachel, Mary and Anne.

The 1851 census has James Rees, (aged 39), born in Llangynor, Carms, with wife Mary (aged 35), born in llangattock, Brecon, living in Parish of Aberystruth (Mon.)
with children Rachel, Mary, Llewelyn, Anne & Daniel

Bob, Thanks for your post. I've only just read it, two years later, but thanks anyway for the information and for taking the time to write your post. My apologies for the long delay.

The James Reeses you mention were my Great Grandfather
and Great Great Grandfather. I have a fair bit of data
about the Birmingham connection which went through my
grandfather Walter James Rees and my father Geoffrey Walter Morton Rees down to me.

I'm hoping to visit South Wales sometime soon to trace more
of their origins. Perhaps you have done so already?
