I don't remember a manger scene out on the town hall lawn at Christmas, but I remember having a manger scene and Christmas tree AND a menorah in the classroom. We were all very respectful of each other's religion. My best friend from k thru 8 was Jewish and our parents encouraged us to learn more about each other's beliefs and traditions. We were each facinated by the differences. I feel very lucky to have had that opportunity. While Eastchester was not as diverse as other communities, we had an even mix of Protestant, Catholic and Jewish religions and I never remember any problems.
