My older brother and I did not share many of the same interests when we were kids and looking back, we both wish we would have had sought more common ground. However, one of the best memories we have of our childhood was making the trip on foot, even in the winter, from our house on Oakland Avenue to Jahn's Ice Cream Parlor every Saturday afternoon for about a year. It was one of the few times we would talk openly without arguing as we sat at the table, me with my chocolate malted (The waiter would call out "burn it" which was the code for a malted) and my brother with his ice cream sundae. It was also a weekly ritual for us to then go across the street to F.A.O. Schwartz and play with the hockey games which were on display until one of the salesmen "politely" asked us to leave.
